What's everyone's Instant Messanger Service? AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo or another one?

Let me know... mine's MSN.

I am using MSN primarily. Yahoo is also good..i found it better for voice/video chats. I have yet to try the new GoogleTalk as its blocked in my network for now.

Oh, man - I JUST downloaded and installed AIM last night so a friend could send me some of her files. Blah. I hate it. I'm actually uninstalling it as I type this, oddly enough.

I prefer Yahoo just because I use some of their other services anyway, as do most of the people I actually care to keep in touch with.

But does anyone remember using ICQ when it was first released (i.e. before it really started to suck)? Man, that used to be a good IM prog.

Does those all-in-one IM programs count also? I have tried Trillian, Miranda and GAIM before.

Trillian is really great, but can be a huge resource hog at times, especially when you're chatting with a bunch of users. Miranda is lightweight, but I had some problems with it connecting to MSN and IRC.

The one I'm trying out right now is GAIM, which is an open-source program. So far, it looks and works good. Plain and simple, which is how I like it.

i use yahoo just because it was the first one i tried as i had a yahoo account and most of my friends use yahoo....well, before gmail came out. i'd like to try the google talk chat, as generally what comes from google is avant-garde and miles ahead of the competitors.

I use trillian as I have most IM services. also google talk works with it.

I like AIM, simply because it has the most users, and I don't know anyone that I chat with who uses MSN or Yahoo.
I do use both MSN and Yahoo at times, but I use AIM much more frequently.

I think most of you that know me, will now feel the urge to shoot me.

I prefer Skype. I have always liked voice chat, even though it's a killer for my allotted transfer amount a month. The voice is far more clearly than on MSN, and actually uses less resources. The only thing I can't do, is host a 3 or 4 way conversation. That just kills my personal BW, but if someone else hosts it, then yep it works fine ;)

I have tried GoogleTalk once, but I am not too sure if I like it. But then again, I haven't added people to it ;)

I dislike AIM the most of all IM services. It's a very unforgiving service, with the flood protection, which can get so annoying.

Yahoo, I only use to talk to a few people I know. Mostly a close friend who uses it while she's at work. Other then that, I don't start it up much.

MSN, however; is almost always connected. I don't care for MSN much with the ads, all the "buy our smilies" etc, but everyone else uses it. So to an extend that forces me into using it as well.

I mostly use AIM, but I maybe getting MSN and Yahoo accounts soon. As for clients, I don't use AOL's, I use Gaim. It's very nice, and it also supports Jabber, MSN, a few others (possibly Yahoo), and even IRC. ;)

if you like bloated interface, useless options, noobish winks/sounds/buzzers and banners MSN 7 is the best for you.

If you like text messaging, sending files and simplicity. GAIM does the job perfectly.

Yahoo tops the list Friends.!

Its a real fact that Features like yahoo cant be matched... I've tried trillian ..But the smileys in trillian just are so boring and not animated ones!

In yahoo i love the new feature of Audibles .. So we can express more with yahoo ! Icq,msn, gaim, trillian,g talk look very boring to me.! The Im with minimum features i saw was google talk.. Its interface is unfriendly too !

I would rank this way...
1.yahoo
2.Msn
3.gaim..

skype is just good for voice chat!
For chatting Yahoo !

yet to try the google talk, it doesnt work on my win98, gotta try it on another pc.. for now.. just GAIM

btw, how's google talk? better than we have already?

MSN because they have a monopoly which they abuse and force their product onto all our computers ;)

I use MSN since years. I've never used another one. O, no, that's not true, i've used Xfire, but I never got into that, cus no other one has that. MSN is just really good. Al my friens have it and i love it. ;)

i use Yahoo Messenger most of all... and frankly... not because it is very good, but because the others well... THEY SUCK ! I mean yeah, Yahoo has audibles and smilyes, and has a "tent" of voice comunication, but it's well under skype at that chapter ! Another reason why i use yahoo is that most of my friends have it ! I think that is the way that we all get fond of a messenger or another : our friends have it, so we install it so we can talk to them and.. voila... we start to like it ! That's why some like MSN and others AIM, but i think that if all of us whould have all of them, we whould all use Yahoo, because it's the least dreadfull !

I mostly just use Xfire but thats because I'm a Gamer and i need it to keep an eye on my clan members.

If you mean to ask about our favorite network, since I never initiate instant messenger communication myself, I'm stuck with whatever addresss I get for the other guy.

If you mean which client, I like Trillian.

   Sat Oct 8, 2005    Reply

I use Trillian, it combines AIM/ICQ/YAHOO/IRC/MSN.
And I'll probably start using Skype soon. :)

But as a single IM, I prefer MSN too. Even though it's Mircoshit. ;)
Pardon my language. ;)

i am using msn 7.5. i find it a good one. as i read there is a newer coming. anw i find msn better for me cz many people have it and it is easier to comminicate with all your friends. whatsmore its an easy to use program with nice features. the only negative i found is that the speed it transfers files is very very slow. hope the newer version be faster.

It was Y!M. Now now, Y!M stop working after 10 minutes of runnning and make a serious crash. So I moved to GAIM, which is opensourced and supports many different protocols. I also use MSN as many others use it. My partners in opensource projects, for example.

I myself use Gaim and it has everything I need for my Instant Messaging, I never really tryed anything else on windows, except for google talk and skype, but on linux I tryed different ones, which were quite nice too, on kde it was better to use qt written software rather than gaim. :)

I have used ICQ but now I don't use anything MSN, aol, or ect.

But I use email or forum.

Google Talk is my love of the IM world. One of things I really like is the very low memory useage so everythings very fast and doesn't come with the overhead that YIM and MSNM, AIM come with, yes I could use Gaim, but ive never really like it.

Calls are good quality and reliable. Fair enough id like to be able to change the colour of my text, and send files would be a god send but its still early beta so it may be included later.

Second favourite is MSNM just because of the wide use of it where I live.

I started to use instant messengers about 3 years ago. It was MSN that made me do it. I had it on my computer, but never used it, so I wanted to give it a try. And it turned out pretty well.

Then, when Google Talk appeared, I downloaded it, but I didn't use it much until now, because I didn't have anyone to talk. Now I use it pretty often.

The latest IM I started using is ICQ. I had to get some job done by ICQ, so I had to register and download it. I have tried it before, but I didn't fancy it too much. Even now I don't!

So - 3 instant messengers:

1. MSN Messenger - because of it's possibilities
2. Google Talk - the opposite - because of the simplicity
3. ICQ - because I have to :)

used to be MN, now it's Jabber, but I don't know anyone who uses Jabber.

I love Jabber because multiple servers can contact anyone from any service. Everyone can set up their own instant messaging system
