PHP is good, it's easy, etc. but what some people don't understand with IPB for example is that it's not because they have installed a IPB that the can create a webpage. those peolple forget that the basic language of PHP is HTML. You have to know HTML before you begin with PHP.

I use IPB, for my websites, and it's free to. The only thing you have to do is leave the copyright.PHP is good, it's easy, etc. but what some people don't understand with IPB for example is that it's not because they have installed a IPB that the can create a webpage. those peolple forget that the basic language of PHP is HTML. IMHO this not the correct point of view.
HTML is the "natural" output of every CSM, of every server-side scripting language at all. But that's it only because HTML was (and is) the "hystorical partner" of internet, as we all know. HTML is far from every scripting language, but every scripting language is forced to face with it.
An internet without HTML would be a better internet, but Internet as we all know is "made of" HTML.

Their output is html (as expected). Mambo opensource is so simple that the user do not need to know html. But he does need to understand how to install mambo.
So Try MOS @ www.mamboforge.com(google them!! i forgot the links)

I haven't really tried CMS's that much because i find them cluttery and all the same because they always seem to have those three familiar columns.

My expirence regarding this is like that you can't do as much in PHP as you can in XOOPS. I've tried both PostNuke and PHPNuke without totaly satisfying. But if you like to personalize your site is knowlege into HTML and PHP a must.
Cheers

What does ipbnuke do?
Ipbnuke completely relys on ipb for the logging in and registering of users. So you login and out with ipb. Its great. And the ipb members table in the database is feeded of by ipbnuke, so all my account modules, etc are still used!
Disadvantages
A lack in modules, themes and login blocks are available for ipbnuke, so you must get Holbrookau (the owner of ipbnuke) to convert them, or if you pm me about themese you want converted I can convert them. This is because the themes and login blocks have to be converted to not use the default phpbb forum location and have full paths.
I highly reccomend any of you wiht limited knowledge in programming check ipbnuke out!!
