So far today ive warned two members, both for different types of spam.

rhodesian.dragon first of all, as he posts some pretty useless posts and just usually makes very little contribution and quotes others a lot. Ive sent him a PM with the warning explaining why.

And the second is prosorcerer for making very short posts.

Why are the spammers getting more force, theres more every day.

Can you help me keep an eye on these guys?

And the answer is "My Space".

For better or worse, we are gaining a reputation at "My Space" as providing quality free web hosting. The problem is that all of the kids at My Space use their accounts there for the storage and districution of music files and other pirated media. Once they run out of room there, they come here looking fo a new place to store and distibute their collection.

This explains all of the new spammers and the increase in questions about uploading files to their accounts.

None of them read any of the information or rules here so they don't even know that they are not only in the wrong place for what they want but have broken evey rule we have. This is why I wrote the "File Upload Instructions For New Users." topic. This disguises the rule and proceedures as a post they would want to read. I'm sneaky like that.

A lot of this stems from the fact that AstaHost offers free web hosting unlike any other free hosting service not only in the way that you post for hosting but in the hosting package itself. Most people looking for free web hosting don't expect to get this type of professional style web hosting account and assume that they just get space on an advertising server etc.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that this is the reason for the surge of spam recently.

Sadly I fully agree with vujsa.

I would also like to mention that I feel that we really need to be even stricter on the rules, because at this rate we will lose control (haven't we already?) and we're just running behind. THere's too much crap in the forums and crap members get the chance to make more even.

So, Trekkie, I know you went on a anti spam war, be my guest to continue and be hard and harsh when it is deserved. If they just make short posts with some content, just refer em to trap.

For the record, aminzzlink will NOT get hosting here, he has nagged to me about it without even bothering to READ what I told him (I gave him the reasons for denial, and a transfer to trap - he continued to apply 6 times now...)

So MySpace is the problem, ill try and track somewhere on the site where asta is mentioned and check where that informations coming from and try and clear a few things up about asta and trap.

Do we have a "hosted" accounts list. Im quite happy to spend a day checking websites for no website, illegal files, or just abuse of the service.

And I dont think we've lost control moonwitch, I just think we need to step up before we do, none of the "Report this post" stuff, that just wastes time, I prefer hitting the user with a warning, then if the post is really bad, ill move it to the spam bin, then tell moon so she can kill some credits

Ill go on another battle today, im sure ill manage to get through all the new posts.

Also another thing, is there a simpler skin, this ones clunky to use and isnt the best for telling you about new posts.

Our good friend Lorenzo spammed the shoutbox and said he wanted booted off asta, I ofcourse honored hios wishes and banned him, with the warning not to cause trouble, we can do that too
