Has anyone got any recommendations for good FTP clients? I have mainly used web-based file managers before, so nothing to hard to use :) .

Take a look at this thread.

My recommendation would be an open source (and thus free) client called FileZilla. It is freely downloadable at SourceForge

FileZilla is about as easy to use as it gets so that shouldn't be a problem. :)

I am use to using FTP Voyager.
Lots of features and able to see 4 windows at one time.
Customizable.

personally i like FileZilla the best, its just easy to use and consumes little system resources. the only problem with it is if the log box (the box at the top which shows the status information) goes past a specific length, it scrolls weirdly.

What's happened to WS-FTP LE (It's made by a British company called Ipswitch I think). It used to be huge and in the top ranked downloaded files from websites for example www.download.com but now for some reason people aren't talking about it any more even though in my opinion is is perfect.

Star Trek, voyager did i hear said, oh no an FTP version, cool but i wish Smartftp would let you edit things and upload them automatically instead of having to change the original.

I used for years WS_FTP is easy to use and free! (well when I got it :P ) I recomend that if you want a good and free ftp client.

I would highly recommend FileZilla like it was mentioned above , it has almost allllllllllllll the features of any commercial ftp client , yet it's still open source and FREE 100% No ads or bs ..

the only problem with , is that it's not so EYE candy ... to look at

others I've tried and proven to be good
FlashFXP and 3DFTP .. the latter has EYEcandy :P

well...i use AceFTP...but what I wanted to say is that FireFTP (an extension for firefox) is one of the worse FTP applications. Don't even bother trying it if you plan to ftp many files. I liked the idea of being able to ftp files right from my browser...but FireFTP is just waayy too slow -_-

Im gonna give FireFTP a try i like the idea of it, but chat zilla was nothing to shout about, filezilla i havent seen yet although ill give it a try, but i still like SmartFTP and net2ftp.com as my main Ftp uploaders.

well, FireFTP is decent if all you plan to do is CHMOD files and/or delete a few things. But, again, if you plan to upload many files (as in more then fifty)...it's not worth it.

I still use WS FTP Home. You can get it Here

My favourite FTP client is the one integrated with Dreamweaver MX. No need to do anything else - just create ur website and upload it from then and there. If you want a standalone application for FTP, i would suggest FTP Genius

G'day,
I use gFTP which is packaged in the gnome desktop environment for *nix machines. It;s very easy to use, fast and best of all ... is opensource and runs on a *nix platform.

Viva la *nix!

Before, my favorite ftp client was flashfxp, because filezilla didn't have a passive mode. But now filezilla use this mode!!

I hope that this post could help you...

I use 2 FTP clients, SmartFTP and CuteFTP...

both are available for free and are very simple to use...

you can download CuteFTP at http://www.cuteftp.com
you may also download smartFTP at http://smartftp.com

or if you have a Dreamweaver MX, you can also use it as an FTP client.. just simply click on the manage site feature, and a wizard will appear which will allow you to upload or download files using FTP...

I use Cute ftp pro at work and I have no problem with it.

Right now I'm evaluating Ipswitch WS_FTP® Professional and WS_FTP Server on a couple of test boxes to see if they have any advantage over current setup.

I'm happy with Cute ftp and would recomend it to anyone.
