I'm not sure if this is the right section for this so please alert me or redirect this post to the right section. I own a wap site that is visited my nearly everyone in my country on a daily basis. What I would like to know is if its posible to put up a FORUM section on it and host it on ASTAHOST, also is the WAP forum a Sql type? i'm kinda new to this stuff, btw, the wap site is in php3 but i'm gonna use wml and upload it to ASTA for hosting because my other(use to be) server is advertising on my site.

Is there a free(good) wap site forum availabe out there that i can use for my WAP site? and have ASTA host it.

I await your reply,

Ram

I dont know what exactly do you mean by a WAP forum - but you can use any of the standard forum packages like IPB, phpBB, vBulletion, SMF etc - to establish a forum that'll carry out discussions regarding WAP related issues.

Now, on the other hand - if you're looking for a forum software that'll generate the pages in WML format, so that the forum is browsable through your mobile/pda - then I'm at a loss. Don't know of any such. Other's might be able to help. If you do find such a software, do you mind putting up a discussion here after you've used it for a while ? I don't think we'd have any problems running such a software here, coz I think server resource usage of such a software will be far less.

SimpleMachines Forum might be able to handle WAP access. How well, I'm not sure since I see positive and negative comments on WAP access. See this topic for more information.

Wow, that's pretty awesome!! A WAP site hmm? Man... that is really cool - browsing websites through your mobile or PDA and such? Honestly, I've never seen it before but maybe in a year or two, I might consider buying a PDA because I might have the need to organize many things and events.

But I have an important question about your WAP site - can a mobile phone from another country in Asia download ringtones and such from your WAP site?

I don't know for a fact, so I could be 100% wrong, but I would assume that once you are online with a mobile device the entire web is accessible, just like on here. I mean there are the normal web access fee's for mobile devices, but I can't imagine getting cut off from sites from other countries.....

Someone let me know if I'm wrong on that...

Yes, it's true.

But imagin: Your mobile fone is charged by each Megabyte. Now imagin the money that you will pay loading lots of pictures, like logos, emoticons, etc, in GIF or JPG (becose in WAP you use WBMP as image type, and is much smaller).

Once the user of your WAP site is very rich, is a little impossible acecss your site many times by the phone.

Dude - but that's the point in question. Whether any good forum software has a WAP enabled version or not. WAP versions of almost all web-appz have all the graphics totally cut-off.

For example take http://www.runbox.com - I've used this email service provider for a long time. They've got their WAP enabled version too at http://fast.runbox.com - entirely devoid of any graphics whatsoever. Just whatever you need most - the content of your emails. That's what WAP is primarily geared for - to provide you with the most required content while taking the most minimalistic approach that'll consume the least resources for your accessing device as well as the server. Just take a look at those two sites - and you'll understand. I needn't say more.

Thanks so far, I feel like I deserted my post, but no. I was busy with SBAs for school lately so I'm sorry for taking so long to a reply. Ok for one, my WAP(GPRS its also called) is FREE, no matter what network I use here in Jamaica, its the same method to get on free with all of them(umm kinda B) ). The costs are too high, down here they charge(10-25c*) per kilobyte you download, its costly yes. But on one other network down here(with enough sense to be competitive) is charging a straight up flat rate($3 a day & $15 for when you use your phone as a modem). I'm using my phone as a modem right now, for free, the speeds are great(faster than dial up) and when they release EDGE it will be DSL speeds for me for free! ;) Anyway back on point, theres a WAP forum(krapwap.com on your phone) that has graphics on it, but its small and does not charge alot to your credit. For the IPB scprit thing, will I be able to control posts, ban people, be a ADMIN in gerneral?

:D very funny that you got a link to that site! Because thats who are hosting my WAP site. Since I started, I've been getting 2000 visits a day. Now that they are advertising on it, it makes it difficult to navigate around. Oh well, so is it possible to have asta host my site(WML)?
