Your favourite bands and albums? And do you have some local, not so well known, bands to share with us.
QUOTE (lhunath)
Depends what you call punk rock, alternative rock: Tool, A perfect circle, Adema, Anathema, ...Tool, Perfect Circle and Adema are certainly alternative rock. Anathema latest albums are alt. rock yes, but I personally prefer the old doom metal stuff.

I like to group all non-metal, non classic r'n'r, non progressive and non hard rock as "alternative rock".Tool, Perfect Circle and Adema are certainly alternative rock. Anathema latest albums are alt. rock yes, but I personally prefer the old doom metal stuff.
blah alternative rock is pretty good if thats what u consider it btu the best stuff is classic rock, metal, rock n roll, rock, punk rock, opera, some punk, hippymusic, and other stuff along those lines...basicly n e thing with a meaning

Sometime I'm Rocky type and Some Rap

Sometime I'm Rocky type and Some RapYeah me too - all depends what mood I'm in - I find that if I listen to something too much it loses it's appeal, so listening to several types of music is the best way to stay interested.
i'm into dillinger escape plan, poison the well, converge, cave in, jimmy eat world, saves that day, old man gloom, isis,...
most of the bands i like are pretty alternative.
but then again, i also like outkast, rammstein, pj harvey,...
Hate hip hop n rnb.. they break my ears. . But i do listen to alternative rock as wel.. i jus listen no idead abt the name of the bands..
On another note, I like some alternative, GRiNDSToNE used to play pretty good Alternative Metal, and Alice in Chains was pretty good. I don't define Alice in Chains as Grunge cause grunge is an insult to rock. Nirvana anyone? Yep, got my point.
Ultraspank was a bit like GRiNDSToNE also too bad these bands break up eventually, I hate how the media focuses on talentless bands.
Incubus' early stuff was pretty alternative, now it's just posh-pop rock. Songs like "A Certain Shade of Green" rule.
i love the way Disturbed are heavy rock, but if you listen to the lyrics (or look them up for the more energetic performaces) the lyrics are quite clever... and meaningful.
i also love.. Metallica, Nirvana, Placebo, Garbage, Static X, and ofcourse SYSTEM OF A DOWN !

I'm actually in an alternative rock band called Local Rate, though nobody will have heard us yet as we're still very new. Is anybody else here in a band?
I love King Bathmat... anyone heard them?

I love alternative rock music. To me though, bands such as the Stereophonics, The Killers and The Zutons really define the alternative scene. Seeing as guitar is my instrument, I worship guys like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Santana.I'm actually in an alternative rock band called Local Rate, though nobody will have heard us yet as we're still very new. Alternative rock such as punk is my favourite kind of music.
I love punk bands like The White Stripes, Pixies, The Ramones, Dead Kennedys, The Hives, The Strokes and The Donnas.
We had a good Alt station where I live (MD/DC) but they changed their format to Spanish music in response to the growing number of Hispanics who listen to the radio. You can find new music faster on the internet anyways.
Unkle too has done some interesting rock songs

They are all good bands, but I dont consider the white stripes, pixies, hives, or strokes as punk. They are definetly aternative, yes, but punk? No way. I think people are losing sight of what punk was really about: being downtrodden and playing music because you're angry about the way people more important than you have ****ed you around. Bands like the dead kennedys and the saints etc... I define as punk, because they sang about rebellion and social issues, as well as satire sometimes. So, as refused put it so aptly in their song: "the shape of punk to come" :
Adolescent beats with a new thing to see
Smashed guitars just like you've seen on T.V.
With burning speakers & flaming hair
We'll have a riot right here
...... they were saying punk has become pop culture... which it has. sniff sniff
