And the links look like they go to a proper Microsoft website eh, didn't even know they actually let just anyone download it at any stage, or did I read wrong?

I don't think they let you download vista from theyr servers cuz that would mean they lose money right <.<

From what ive seen, its a vast improvement from XP and microsoft has to be congratulated!! it is a little memory hungry and can take it out on your computer, but 512mb of memory will just run it, 1gb wil run it nicely wityh a few slow hiccups and 2gb will run it like a charm (ive tried them all) even a 128mb graphics card will run the 'aero effects' but just be carefull which one you pick (it must have pixel shader 2.0 support oherwise it wont work!)
still if you can get your hand on a copy its worth the wait! but i suggest install it on a spare pc (if you have one) or a virtual pc just to see whats its like first. its a real pain when you have to backup all your files just in case something happens!! (i could never imagine what id do without all my stuff) Good Luck!

Not really.. it depends. Beta 2, RC1 and RC2 CAN be downloaded and used LEGALLY if you previosly got a LEGAL serial from MS which is valid for activating 10 computers (which is really more than enough and each email got up to 2 serials I think, which is 20 computers.) If you seriously need a LEGAL serial, I think I have a few extras I'll NEVER use. Piracy is wrong.
And seriously, if you don't know how to use peer-to-peer, you're in the wrong place!
Anywho, back on subject. Vista, IMO, is a load of over-priced garbage. It's XP on steroids. All the junk they put in Vista could have been in XP SP3. Also, it's a RAM eater. It won't run on my laptop (AMD XP-M, 1.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM) real well and uses more memory than it needs. If you just want the looks of Vista, find a Vista theme pack. It'll save you disk and RAM.
Another thing, EVERYTHING has moved (well, except for the taskbar) but the start menu is different, My Computer is now "Computer", Control Panel opens everything in it's own Window now, the default icon size (on the desktop) is HUGE (like we're all blind and can't see icons, it would have just made more sense to set the default resolution to 600x800). Also, MS has seriously hurt the Information Security industry. You know, Symantec, Grisoft, McAfee, etc. Actually, AVG will now be promoted through the Control Panel for security because of some company interaction. Vista is secure (for now) but there is probably some huge gaping hole in the software waiting to be discovered.
Trust me, any computer made before Vista is released, should continue to run Windows XP or lower. So if you bought a computer with one of those "Vista Capable" stickers on it, DO NOT run Vista! The version of Vista you'll be able to run is Home Basic or Home Premium. Not worth it, both these editions aren't very special. See the editions listed on the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_vista
My main computer *might* be able to take Vista well, my laptop will stay with XP as it runs it perfectly. Well, I could run Vista but I wouldn't be able to watch DVDs (it REFUSES to use virtual memory. It much prefers physical memory).
Just my rather long rant on Vista. Trust me, you don't want it. Vista is like sugar & color coated spinach.

That is 100% true, also don't forget that Vista is bugged, it would take atleat 2 year to clean it up and fix up the security holes. Maybe i'll run it in the year 2020 when windows xp is not supported and my computer is able to handle 10 gigs of ram.

Hahaha!!! Nah, unlike Win9X/ME, XP is the first non-DOS based OS. NT is a powerful core and XP is just simply the best. I love their marketing and how it is all "Windows Vista is the best OS to date!" Yeah, well when Windows 1.0 came out the same thing was said about it.
I swear that when MS announces the date they they officially "unsupport" XP, everyone is going to complain like they did with 9X/ME to get the date extended. I don't think anyone will let XP fall "unsupported".

Fair enough that new drivers and technologies will come out but not long after Vista more will belt through and we probably won't see another OS for quite some time.....
