One christmas, I recieved a spare parts desktop. I joyously installed RedHat and Windows XP, only to find that XP had corrupted the HD! I tried again, this time with only Debian. I was working fine, untill I got to installing X11. The mouse refused to work! I kept getting:
USB device not exepting port 1
New USB device on port 2
USB device not exepting port 2

and on and on and on.

Anyone got any ideas?

what does the xorg.conf file say about the mouse ? Have you tried running xorgconfig again ? What might help is choosing IMPS/2 (Microsoft PS/2 mouse if I remember correctly) as protocol instead of USB.
