I've been using Avast for a few years now and I'm happy about it, except (and I've only recently found that out) the fact that it realy slows down Vista if you set it to scan dynamic libraries (dlls) on load. If that option is enabled, showing the send-to menu takes upto 15 seconds, showing the network-popup-thingy takes 5 seconds, network center is loaded after 7 seconds ...
I've now disabled it to speed things up and set it to scan every created or modified file, safety first you know :rolleyes:
