How To Create A Invisible Folder in Windows XP
First off, go to your desktop and right click -> go down to new -> (and select) folder

Now, right click the folder and go down and click rename

And press delete (to remove the name of the folder), then press the following buttons:
Now the folder shouldn't have a name(as in the picture below)...

Next we need to get rid of the icon... So right click the folder and go down to properties and press the customize tab, and select the button change icon
Scroll across untill you see a blank space in between the icons...
Select this and press OK and then OK again
Here are the steps in picture form:

Thats it, know you should have an invisible folder on your desktop, oh and it is not limited to the desktop, it can be anywere you want. Your hidden files can now really be hidden on XP!

-- if this isn't the case and you get an odd character(symbol) then do the same as before except instead of the number 225 try 01696

This is similar to hiding HTML elements using CSS visibility:hidden instead of display:none in my opinion.
It's invisible, but still displayed.
If they go through the folder icons using the arrow keys, it will land on a blank space and all that you have to do to open it is press enter.
A further step you can do to hide the folder even more is to set the folder as hidden. This way if hidden files and folders are hidden, it won't be found using the arrow keys. Also, hidden files/folders won't show up in directory listings on the command prompt.
