I was just interested to see who many members are professional web designers or if they only work on their own site.

As I'm only 15 I'm not employed as a designer (I wish), but I am definately considering it as a future career along with the army and a chef (my sister is one and she really enjoys it).

Huh, I always wondered what working as a chef would be like. How is the pay?

The pay is very good if you can put up with the odd burn :) . It's also really easy to get a job anywhere. My sister currently works 4 days a week at a tavern and is getting $20 hour :) .

depends on what you're going to offer ,
for me I dont touch PHP/CGI/DATABASE or FLASH , I just make HTMLS /DHTML / XHTML and of course Graphics

I charge $0.0 for persoanl websites ( 2 -3 pages )
I charge $0.0 for freeware software developers
$0.0 for non-profit organizations

$100 for Small Sized Companies ( non databased products )
$500 for Large companies ( with scripts / databases and all )

examples of my work :

and personal websites :

Cryptonx, it looks like u have a lot of experience in grafic design.. and that's VERY important.. i'm more of a coder....

Ok, so, i would like to give u a recomendation.. for the http://www.1337player.com/
website you should use iframe to show the center content.. why?, simple.. 1. You don't have to reload ALL the page to show some (small) info, and 2. You will have a scroll, so, for ex: you could show a lot more info with out messing out the image design..

if you like, i could help u out with it...

And the prices... humm.. ok, i used to charge like $30 usd... but i was getting ripped off!!!! i know charge 150.. jeje

lol @ rapco
yes , you are correct and i fixed this in my new site :
http://cryptonx.astahost.com

but the OWNER of th 1337player.com website wanted diffrent pages so HE can easily update when i am not arround ( i am the webmaster of the website ) and the rest of the links if you try them are links to A FORUM category not a webpage , the only real webpage links are the gallery and download links .

thanks for the tip tho :)

I have a policy about charging you see , I don't like ppl being NOSEY and BOSSY at my work , so when I charge a little I expect them to get satisfied and that's what really happens , but when I come to a point where I see I can really match Pro. designers which i am very far from right now ,I would think of charging much more , and since I am still a DADDys boy , I dont need to make a living out of it :)

I only design part time to stash my pocket for school.

to varsoft, what exactly are you interested in. usually you can get the info by using Google.

I work for others in a design environment. I work with an art team and we do all our corporate pages for several of our companies. I think ones opinion as to what is "professional" is subjective - if you are interested in doing web design as a job or just graphic design you must first begin to get over the idea that unless you are "the best" or close to it that you aren't "professional" - Where I work there are plenty of people helping to make hundreds of $$millions$$ a year for our corporations doing many different jobs from graphic design to upper management and support who consider themselves "professional" and they are really more 'hacks' than the people on forums like this who consider themselves 'hacks'. So really professionalism is relative and quite subjective to ones opinion of ones self.

Have more self-confidence. People who can do what is going on at sites like this - search for answers and learn how to use software & hardware - are much brighter people usually than those who go college for years.

A degree is just paper.

I design websites for others, although I choose not to get paid for them.

I usually get things for free for doing sites, which was nice when I did one for an electrical retailer...
