Asta-Radio!

We could have a radio station for Astahost, what we do is use shoutcast to stream a low birate radio station, maybe 32kbps then its small enough for dialup and good enough quality for Broadband. It wont be illegal as we arent letting users download the music, its just listening in and all the technology for its free. The staff and some "good" members could have there own shows, in which they can either play music or just yak. It would be great fun, just limit listeners and keep birate small and bandwidth wont be that bad. Depends ofcourse if Opaque has the bandwidth and is willing to do this.

I am completely new to this. And quite unfamilier with internet radio. I would definately like to know other's feedback about this.

It sounds interesting but will require someone or persons to devote the time to keep a daily program running. You have to monitor what info is released to avoid legal issues.

It could become a task if you want to run it properly. I used to play around with one some time back but gave up on it because I could not really tell if people were listening to it after fighting so hard to keep it up and running.

I must say it is fun though you can get some satisfaction out of it. Especially if you DJ and have a lot of music to play.

If we have the Shoutcast server, I have the upload software running on my comp. I could gladly fill a timeslot as a DJ. Just an Idea...

But, I used to run the broadcast of WBRG in Lynchburg, so if anyone has any questions about the legality of it, just ask...

That abover is basically shoutcast, you use a plugin in winamp or some other software like Sam to send music to the server and it sends it to listeners.

We dont need to be on all the time, but if you wanted you could each have a spot to take and broadcast.

The technology has been out a while and is proven to be stable, a little resource//bandwidth heavy but if we do it in timed positions it wont be a problem, also if we keep the birate at 32 or lower bandwidth shouldnt be much.
