Type this command when using google: ?intitle:index.of? mp3 followed by the name of an artist or song. Once you've done that, a crap load of open directories will pop up linking you to what you're looking for.
Here's an example: ?intitle:index.of? mp3 Mars Volta

This doesn't ahve to be used just for mp3s, you can use it to find any open directory, but sure, mp3s might be very applicable.
How did you find that?

The only problem with Altavista's Audio search is sometimes their cache is very, very old, and the page which is meant to have the song you want on it no longer exists.
