Ive noticed there are sometimes PM's from users asking mods to modify there posts for them.
a while back, one user made several requests in as many days.

should we not allow users to modify there own posts ???

just a surgestion.

Neh... There are always mods online to do those edit chores and i think it would be a hassle to implement it in the system.

The reasons for removing the edit button have been discussed numerous times and are very sound. The mods and admins handle the situation very well, and IO have only had the opportunity to fix a post once.

Come to think of it, I haven't had to edit a post since vizskywalker was made a moderator. Now that he can edit his own posts, the rest of us have had less work. :P

I posted a topic in the announcement forum with instructions for users to report posts that need to be edited. Additionally, there is a moderator tutorial on how to deal with the requests.

The instructions outlined in these two posts were approved by Admin.

Very funny, vujsa! :P No you're right, I did ask for edits a lot. But for some reason my posts haven't needed editing much since I became a mod. (And now that I've essencially been banned from the comp and won't be on as much till summer, I will need editing a lot less).

Vujsa's topic is very helpful, and didn't you (you being vujsa) make a bookmark by which we could a link to that post into the shoutbox and posts easily?

I must say its been a while since I got an email telling me about a PM, and all pm's were about you visky but someone had always dealt with it before me. Atleast you were a good member.

I think users tend to think their posts through more as they become more active.

Still, it'd be userfull if the users could edit their own posts, but cause problems like:

*Changing something bad they said before a mod has time to see it.
-I guess it's all a matter of trust? lol.

Meh...I trust the people at my forums, so I gave em set right.

It'd be ez to change though, it's inside IPB settings (@ jipman)

Maybe we should set some option to enable to the edit button only after user's made around 100-150 posts. Coz by that time, as spacewaste pointed out, members become much more wizened about their content and presentation to keep up with the others.

Yeah just set it for a group that. Never thought of that.

I really don't see why there is such a fuss. As I understand it, the no edit issue is only for the topic starting post. Replies are still editable by the poster aren't they?

I think limiting the oppurtunities to cheet the system is worth having the staff help edit a small number of posts each week. There are several of us after all.

I don't think the members are allowed to use the edit button at all... One reason for that is that sometimes people reply a huge block of nonsense text, then edit it to something like "I agree!" so that they can get more hosting credits. I have to admit, I have thought of doing that before I became a mod, but I never got a chance to do it. :(
