I registered for a new domain at .be, and looks like I can't connect to my ftp account. I'm behind a firewall so I've got to use net2ftp. It's been quite some time since I used ftp. I used to upload files using the upload script in cpanel. If I try to upload a file, I'm getting the error:

QUOTE

Warning: ftp_connect(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /home/net2ftp/public_html/includes/filesystem.inc.php on line 48

I tried to login using firefox as '<username>:<password>@ftp.abhiram.be', but I keep getting:

QUOTE

The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: ftp://ftp.abhiram.be/

The following error was encountered:

Unable to determine IP address from host name for ftp.abhiram.be

The dnsserver returned:

Name Error: The domain name does not exist.

This means that:

The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct.

Your cache administrator is webmaster.

I've checked in CPanel under the ftp manager, and it says to use ftp.abhiram.be to login to ftp connections.

Any ideas?

Please merge with above post.

Here is what I'm using in the domain register page:

QUOTE

abhiram.be NS ns1.astahost.com  3600
www.abhiram.be NS ns2.astahost.com  3600
ftp.abhiram.be NS ns1.astahost.com  3600
abhiram.be MX mail.abhiram.be  10
abhiram.be A 64.69.46.210  10
www.abhiram.be A 64.69.46.210  10
mail.abhiram.be A 64.69.46.210  10

I added the line with 'ftp.abhiram.be' to see if it would make any difference. Didn't help.

Wait a sec - I didn't understand the last part
Why do you have Ip's associated with your domain ? And how come abhiram.be points to ns1 and www.abhiram.be points to ns2 ?

Where do you change these settings ? Seems like a config. error... Need some more details ..

Well... abhiram.be and www.abhiram.be were associated with the domain servers own default page ... I changed them to point to astahost without adding any new records.

Also, there was one record with the IP address and I changed it to the IP address pointed in my CPanel. But now, I don't see it anymore for some strange reason.

All these settings are changed in PowerAdmin in the domain name site.

Here's a screenshot of the PowerAdmin page. I removed the IP addresses connecting to my webpage, but now it isn't even opening that, let alone the ftp access.

Okay, now I've been able to login and make changes once more (finally). This time, very surprisingly, www.abhiram.be and ftp.abhiram.be are working but abhiram.be has stopped working.

I've posted a screenie below. It's working only if I give the IP address of astahost and doesn't work if I just give the nameservers.

Oh great I haven't seen a control panel like this - and certainly not one which won't work with the NS-es.. hmm.. maybe try removing the ns1 and 2 altogether and see if it works.. But this is going to be a problem in future.

Try removing the ns-es and let me know.

Surprise surprise .... everything's working now .

Here's a screenie:

abhiram.be, www.abhiram.be and ftp.abhiram.be are working.

But why do you say that it'll cause a problem in the future? You mean if the IP of the server changes?

Yeaa, naturally. Coz the server IP might change anytime. That is why we have the whole NameServer concept.. lol. anyways, very funny domain control I must say.
