Wow..Being a Blizzard fan(Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft) I am actually pissed at this. A guy at the well known site rootkit.com made some tests on World of Warcraft. It seems that the "warden" client they use every 15 seconds runs on your computer. It was made to verify the compliance with the EULA/TOS. Ok here's the thing this client using GetWindowTextA function and some DLL dumping can see any window you have opened, and supposely also the information on them. Basically this guy proved that it is gathering mails, information from any application you have opened. I know it was made to prevent cheaters from running ULTRAMAPHACK.exe for example but wow spying on us its no good. I hope authorities can do something to prevent this cause having a game without cheating but being spyed on its not worth it in my opinion. Good game. well i think we all know blizzards lack of security for the games we play, example diablo 2 LOD, yeah sure we liked to the point that we couldnt take the dupers, hackers and the typical kind of annoying people that play games, but that matter we cant help. I dont blame them for not putting so much attention to games like diablo 2 LOD when u got WOW, but to the point where there doing something illegal isnt making me walk any faster to go out and buy it

Well.... if you haven't heard of it yet ... you can cheat on WOW without getting caught by getting a BMG CD which has XCP protections.

That Spyware isn't Illeagle : \ ... 1. It states in the opining agreement that they use the 'Spyware' to prevent hacking. 2. It searches for certian files to be used. If used otherwise (Which it is only used to collect system Specs for their company) They can be considered illeagal but. THEY don't use it for anything other than stated in the agreement.

Yes, please understand that Blizzard is not trying to gather information for malicious purposes. I mean, look at it - they're like one of the biggest gaming companies in the world!! Think Warcraft III, Diablo II... World of Warcraft. They are surely not going to make a fool of themselves, you know.

I'm sure their sole purpose of that little scheme is to prevent cheaters and such. So don't worry too much, alright?

It dose'nt matter if they are the biggest richest and the most fairest this is illegal by fedrale law and blizzards own rules in the game no 3rd party spyware and no hacking into other computers or useing anyprogram to sniff out files that may contain sesitive information this is a very big deal I know my files and people who play wow and do at home work on the same computer has the right to privacy you don't know if blizzard is gain info to get more money or not. It is illegal from the start and I find it offinsive to the point that I am not playing wow no more.

World Of Warcraft Spyware

Something was messed up with my computer and so my mom took it to the IT manager in her office to check it out. He said that wow had given my computer a virus and that was why the computer wasnt working. He said something from one of the patches was a virus but it was really strange because the "virus" somehow made it so that sound and some wifi networks do not work. This is really weird. Is this even possible. Is it possible it came from a wow patch?

If the patch is submitted by WOW developers, then it cannot be the patch that infected your PC.

There are many many things which are downloaded/uploaded behind the scene when you are surfing the internet.

So, its hard to pinpoint.

Your best Bet : A Good antivirus + spambot protection.
