It is very easy to create a home network over a router. I will just assume you are using Windows XP. Open the Start Menu and open the Control Panel. Then click on Network Connections. On the Task Bar to the left of the Network Connections Window, click Set up a home or small office network. Then click Next and then Next. Select This computer connects to the Internet through a residential gateway or through another computer on my network and click Next. Then if you haven't setup your computer name, type in what you want and click next. Type in the workgroup you want to use for network. (You must remember this name to use on the rest of the computers you will do this on.) After this it will ask if you want to make a Network Setup Disk. You can choose do make one or you can repeat these steps on the rest of the computer manually.

Of course it's possible, and it's a great thing to have. Because XP directions were already given, I'll post the OS X way. First, you need to have File Sharing turned on, which is in the Sharing pane of the System Preferences. Turn on Fire Sharing, and voila, you can set options concerning how people can access your computer. To actually connect to a computer on the network though, you need to (on the client computer) go to "Go" in the menu bar, and then Connect to Server. Enter the server address, or you can browse, but then connect and you'll be prompted for your username/password. This should be your regular login name and password, though you can create a separate account just for file sharing. That's pretty much it, but remember to turn on File Sharing for each computer you want to access. Now, a greater concern is wireless security. Now that you have file sharing turned on, people can access your data. If you use a modern router, turn on WPA, or if it's a tad older, turn on WEP. WEP is still pretty easy to crack, but hey, it's something.

If you are connecting it to the Internet the purpose it serves is to weed out unwanted traffic and help protect yourself from hackers.

Yea running a home network is pretty awesome. Makes it easy to run lan games and makes file sharing between computers a breeze (as well as the mentioned firewall capabilities of most routers to make your network and computer much more safe whilst venturing around the interwebs)

I also use Network Magic, it came with my D-Link router. I don't like it a lot, but it can sometimes repair the connection in Windows. The adapter doesn't have a problem in Linux though, using ndiswrapper. As for the username and password, the username is usually Admin or Administrator and the password is blank unless otherwise indicated in your router's documentation.

Wireless Routers
G G+ N (4) So in my house at the moment, my modem is running into a Belkin G+ router. We have a 2 story house
and I sleep upstairs. My sister is also upstairs and her laptop picks up the internet... Just.
I'm getting a new computer soon in my room and I want Wireless-N. I know wireless-N has more
range/speed than G, but does this depend on the router? For example, will I be able to have
faster/more stable internet than my sister because of the wireless-N card, or will I have to upgrade
the router to an N series as well?....
Ad-hoc Networks (without Routers)
another way of getting wireless (0) Hey, i started learning about networks when i was playing with settings on my laptop. I discovered
ad-hoc networks. Basically if you dont know hoe it works iv'e got built in woreless in my laptop

connect to wireless and lan at once, and you can share the internet from the sending laptop. The
only downside is that you have to keep the sending laptop turned on to receive it all the time. what
you can do aswell is printer sharing, hard drive sharing (personally i have an exte....
Extending A Wireless Network
Wireless Internet (2) Usually, to integrate WiFi capabilities into an existing LAN involves interfacing a wireless router
with an existing LAN and configuring it as an access point. If it is meant for free public use, then
it may not be necessary to encrypt the transmission, otherwise it is advisable to encrypt it with at
leas a 64-bit WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) key. Depending on the gain in db of the attached
antenna, the radius of wireless coverage can vary from 250meters to close to 450meters. Now comes
the stage where we need to extend the coverage of the wireless transmission, t....

issues about networking my PC with the MAC at home through a Modem+wireless router. I have been

Linksys Wireless N 150 Router
Review of the router (4) Well, I have had a linksys wireless b router for some time now, but had been having issues with not
getting a strong enough signal throughout my house. Yet what seemed odd, is that I could get
stronger signal from all of my neighbors, even those who were down the street several houses from
me. And so I decided that it was time to purchase a new wireless router. Even though, the newest
computer I have is wireless g, I went for the wireless n because of the increased range, and the

Realvnc Troubleshooting With Router

address that came up when I ran the "VNC server test page". So like the documentation said on the

IP addresses on my computer at home. I tried both IPs but the viewer keeps giving me the same error

it and use another security method, WEP is hackable and can allow users through quite easily, i
