Wine Anyone?

Hi,

I've installed Wine in Slackware 10.1. Some of the basic Windows programs are working fine such as Notepad and Waste. Since my Windows XP installation got screwed, I just tried installing the game 'F22 Raptor' (Ok.. it's a pretty old game, but easier and less resource hogging than MS Flight simulaor) in Linux and surprisingly, it worked. Even more surprising is the fact that the I could play the game with the sound and music without configuring anything in wine.cfg. But the only problem is the frame rate. It was pretty smooth in Windows, but in Linux, it's like watching a powerpoint presentation in fast forward. It can't be any more than 10-12FPS. Does anyone have any ideas about how to resolve this?

It's controlled by the DirectX interpreter, you might need to change some directx settings, I don't really know how to set this. This will interprete from DirectX to OpenGL.

Anyways, if you want to shell out a subscription fee, you can use Cedega.

Have you installed your graphics card ?
If No, then you will be running MessaGL, which is Software OpenGL.

To use hardware accelerated OpenGL, you will need to install the drivers from Nvidia.com, or ATI.com depending on your cards GPU.

the program glxinfo will tell you what client and server openGL you are using, if the word Messa shows up anywhere, then your card is not installed, or not configured correctly.

I've got the NVidia graphics driver installed. 'glxgears' is working and 'glxinfo' gives me a load of data at the top of which is mentioned Nvidia glx something, but there is no 'Messa' ('Mesa'?) any where. But still the game is pretty slow... I've tried to fool around with the wine configuration but no use.

Is there any way to change the graphics resolution settings of the game? Because F22 does not have any options to change the display resolution or anything. I've tried setting '800x600' in the config file, but it didn't help.

Although wine is good and alot of stuff can be played on it .like i have played MOHAA trhough wine with little hickups..its still an emulaotr. Windows games run best on Windows. You can always try a special version of wine from Transgaming corporation , called Cedga , it is meant for gaming , there are free binaries avialble.

it would be helpful if you posted your glxinfo output here.

it's not an emulator, like what the name says. WINE is Not an Emulator.

I have a couple games working perfectly on the WINE technology via Cedega.

Wine (The free as in free beer version) does not support DirectX.
I would guess that F22 is detectng that DirectX is not available, and dropping back to software rendering. Cedeger fully supports DirextX 9 !

Im using Cedega right now...it supports DirectX 9b (the latest avalable)
It runs Counter Strike Source and Half Life2 at the same frame rate as windows. possably cos Linux can take full advantage of my amd64 ???

Plus....ive not had to touch any config files... yay for the Point2Play GUI

go buy cedger.. its worth it !

I just can't seem to figure out how to lower the resolution. The game doesn't have any option to do that. I think it runs at the resolution of the desktop. How do I reduce the resolution of the desktop?

hmm... I'm getting second thoughts now. Yes, I am a student. 9 pounds converts to uh... nearly Rs. 600.... I can get a beer for Rs. 50

I guess that might be the problem. I was under the impression that DirectX was completely supported in Wine.

Let me start by saying I like Cabela's hunting games and they are by far the best hunting games
out there BUT when ever I get a new Cabela game it never lasts. The game stops working after 4-5
hours of play. Maybe I have just had bad luck when buying these games. I know its not the way I

Windows Mobile 6.1 Games Folder

My games folder on my HTC Touch Diamond has 'disappeared'. Actually it shows on start menu
but does not open original folder.Other games installed all show on the folder but the windows
original games, eg teeter, cannot be seen anywhere. Opening the games folder from the program files
is ok but the original games not there, opening games folder from start up menu(which cannot be
removed either) does not open anything.Any solutions please??!!!!!....

Hi guys, Ok we got FIFA07 yesterday and its GREAT!!! but we have probs witht he controls...our old
joystick just doesnt have enough buttons on it.. SO I started looking around for a gamepad-we want
one like the PS2 or Xbox ones with dual analogue sticks and possibly vibration on. Apart from the
Logitec range which I have heard bad things about (losing calibration of the sticks all the time
forcing you to pull it out and recal during gameplay) can anyone recommend a good gamepad for the

America's Army, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. I played america's army,
and the graphics are good but the game takes a while to load. Wolfenstein has worse graphics, but

Does anyone miss the old Super Nintendo system and the video games? I sure do miss it. I grew up
playing Nintendo then Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. I think those games were very fun and
entertaining such as Yosies Island, Super Mario, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, NBA Jam, and Zelda.
I miss playing those games. Although Playstation, Gamr Cube, and X Box are better in graphics I
still don't get the fun out of those games as much as I used to on the old systems. The old
gaming systems have this special connection and I had much more fun playing the old games ....

Hey all! I was wondering what kinds of games you all have made or are working on right now.
I'm also interested in what languages/software you used to make them. The most recent game
I've made is Cannon Wars. It is a 3-D artillery game, similar to Scorched 3D . You control
the angle and power of your gun and try to blow the other players up. After a lot of work I was
able to add network support so you can play with people over a LAN. It also has a primitive Ai so
that you can play against computer players. I wrote it in C++ and used Directx for the graph....

I love all sports games. Madden 2005 is the best game ever made. That game is soo addicting. I can
play it for hours with my friends. Also MVP baseball is a great game. Last years was okay the BIG
problem was the left handed glitch. With the lefties you couldnt hit homers or hit the ball far at
all. Also NHL 2k5 was a great game. It had sick graphics. I love sports games. There just so much
fun. Im not really in to the Halo games but I hear there great.....

Let me just say. MGS3 was just......awesome. Gameplay, plot, voice acting, directing, music, the
whole composition was ace. After i beat it, i felt liek i had just discovered the meaning of life.
