| | Dear Friends When using WINDOWS XP, and while in Windows Explorer, very often when attempting to drag a file from Explorer to the folder you want to move it to, an error message will pop up saying: Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down...which usually freezes up Explorer..and you have to open it up and try to do the function of dragging the file again. As well...in some cases, when that error shows up, almost instantly after closing it, which usually means you have to do the Control-Al-Del thing opening the task list in order to close the folder in Explorer totally and start all over. Do you know what causes such a problem to occur? It is very frustrating. |

That problem is caused by the most notorious of bugs... windows XP. Ok in reality I don't know specifically what is causing that as I mean, it could be numerous things. I'd reccomend the basics, update and run your adware/spyware removal tools and virus scanners. Hopefully it's just something within one of those categories causing your system to be *****y.

Are you by any chance trying to move Video files ? Because if thats the case .. then if you dont have the appropriate codecs installed, Explorer can crash while you move them .. or when u see them in Thumbnail view .. Just get the correct codecs and things will be fine again .. Regards Dhanesh.

Did you download or install anything new recently before this problem began? Perhaps Windows XP Service Pack 2? When Windows crashes, you should have an error report window popup. See if you can find any details on that error or post any filename or error code listed in that window. Do a ctrl+alt+del and go to the Processes tab. See if you can spot any process that begins with drwatson.exe

-reply by Kevin IE7 isn't the fix for the problem. Something probably got corrupted on your computer and by installing IE7 the corrupted data got fixed. I still run XP SP1 with IE6 installed on it and I have absolutely no problems with it, so don't blame microsft, blame something else for trashing your windows installation.

There's obviously some type of bug crashing your Explorer. BE sure to install ALL updates to eliminate all the known bugs in the system. I have yet get an error using Windows Explorer having it crash during a drag and drop unless my processor is so busy that Windows Explorer just crashes. On Windows Vista, no problems yet except for driver issues due to 64-bit nature of the system. Other than that, it's working beautifully (surprisingly). xboxrulz

Try using the System Restore function in Windows XP to restore the operating system to an earlier system checkpoint, before the error started occurring with Windows Explorer. I find that if I drag a file from one window of Windows Explorer to another window of Windows Explorer, the original folder of the drag-drop operation tends to freeze and not respond until the drag-drop operation is completed. If you really can't find a solution to the problem, I suggest you contact Microsoft technical support for technical assistance on your problem with Windows XP, although they may not be able or willing ( ) to help you.

Try moving the files in List or Detail view. There may be a problem with your thumbnail cache. And as others said, try System Restore if possible. A last resort is to wipe and reinstall Windows XP.

Why I May Be Installing Windows Xp Sp3 Again
(16) This is a sad tale of a man and his machine that would not start again. The story continues with a
sorted affair between two operating systems and a battle to win the love of this man’s heart. My
problems began last weekend when I started my computer after it had been off from the previous

100 Reasons To Use Windows Vista
No, really?? (14) Recently, I have received an "Exploring Windows" email from Microsoft, which led me to an
interesting link called 100 Reasons You'll be speechless. Thought it was related to Windows

responding most of the time. Also, many users have complained about User Account Control, which say
that it makes using the PC not a breeze. I haven't tried it yet, but from others' point of
view, it seems to be intrusive and annoying. 2. Your music may be a click away from your re....

Problem With Drag And Drop (or So It Seems).
(16) I'm running on Windows XP with Service Pack 1. The last few days, all of a sudden, the drag and
drop functionality of explorer (or anything on the operating system that uses system calls in order
to perform it) screws up completely. I attempt to drag it, and it just flickers a bit to the
direciton I'm moving it and then fails. It doesn't seem to be the mouse as I can still drag
a rectangle selection to select multiple files etc, just no drag and drop. However, it isn't
always like that, it works generally (as far as I know) and stop working out of now....

Downgrade Windows MCE To XP?

Can You Create A Folder Name "con"
Is it possible to create a folder named "CON" in Windows? (21) I tried in both Windows XP Home and Professional. If you try to make a folder named "CON" Windows XP
renames it back to what it was. So creating a new folder with the name "CON" just renames it to "New

The Best Version Of Windows
