| | Hey all I found this great site http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/ What it does is allow Firefox users to use Windows update. Also its VERY handy for getting updates if WGA is turned on. This site has a databse of all the updates available and really looks and feels like the normal Windows update. They say on the site that its not a 100% version but they say most updates are including on thier database a couple of days after Microsoft publish them. I just remade a new Ghost and used this site to update my XP to the current updates, I ran it from this site first then installed and rebooted then went to the Microsoft Update site and it couldnt find any updates at all. Its even installed all the security patches for IE7 which I thought was strange but great at the same time |

Sorry, but going to odd sites like this is very risky. I would not reccommend it, its not official. Updating your system through the use of an unoffical site "WindizUpdate is not affiliated with or authorized by Microsoft. "Microsoft Windows" is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation" is taking a risk at installing hidden viruses and spyware on your computer. If microsoft eventually allow firefox users to access their offical updates then thats when I would actually use firefox to update windows. With so many phishing sites around, a site like this will and might be shut down. So those of you that are using this site please be very cautious cause sites like this is very dangerous especially when its leading you to believe that you are updating your system through another means. I would suggest you update through the normal process and offical process of windows ie. Im a firefox user and I hate IE, but going through to this site just to update windows with firefox is a risk I rather not take.

I use IE for windows update. In fact I use IE for many other things as well. I still use Firefox mostly because I'm too lazy to change my default browser, and IE isn't better than firefox. But IE7 isn't much worse. I think it's nice that some sites are making it possible to never use IE even for the things that require IE, but really. Unless you've uninstalled IE (which you were too lazy to do, right you firefox zealot) you should probably use the real Microsoft site. Unless you are using a pirated copy of windows in which case you can't because of WGA, in which case you are likely a semi-bad person. Or something. ~Viz

Why bother? Internet Exploiter, I mean Explorer can already do that. It's not going to kill you to use IE for just updates. Plus, I don't trust that website and it's going to be obsolete once Vista is the norm as Windows Updates is built into the operating system. Also, your system should already update whenever you're connected online or when you shutdown your machine (On XP SP2/2003 SP1+/Vista) xboxrulz

Ok first of all im more interesed in using it for WGA issues not the IE issues. Second I think I have been worrying about computer security longer than some of you have lived, im not some noob 15yr old that thinks hes "Leet" When I first used this place I fully checked it out, I have run traffic shapers, a hardware firewall, a software firewall, anti virus and spyware, all against this app and what it downloads. Its 100% clean! I monitored the ports on that pc for days and noticed nothing unusual and no unknown processes running at all. So I think its pretty safe, as I said in the other post I used this and updated then rebooted and went to Microsoft and the lists of updates were the same.I think its basically making a "wrapper" around the MS site with the WGA stuff stripped out and the IE check stripped out.

After XP SP2, you don't even need IE to update (probably need the stuff, but not it open), so be safe, don't use this, and use Opera! Nice find though, I know plenty of people with no WGA.

That's probably true. The different versions of Windows have different special keys and what not which means most things have to be specially customized for those versions. It's probably unlikely that this site does work for non-English versions of Windows. And has anyone confirmed whether or not it works for Vista? ~Viz

Why I May Be Installing Windows Xp Sp3 Again
(8) This is a sad tale of a man and his machine that would not start again. The story continues with a
sorted affair between two operating systems and a battle to win the love of this man’s heart. My
problems began last weekend when I started my computer after it had been off from the previous
night. Everything went normally throughout the POST but once Windows XP started I heard the dreaded
clicking from the hard drive. After several reboots and a Spinrite diagnostic I gave up and called
the time of death around three in the afternoon. This is not all bad because I had....

100 Reasons To Use Windows Vista
No, really?? (13) Recently, I have received an "Exploring Windows" email from Microsoft, which led me to an
interesting link called 100 Reasons You'll be speechless. Thought it was related to Windows

that it makes using the PC not a breeze. I haven't tried it yet, but from others' point of
view, it seems to be intrusive and annoying. 2. Your music may be a click away from your re....

Will Using Fdisk Corrupt Windows Partition?
(9) I remember doing this before in the past with a DOS partition. It wasn't working properly, so
the office tech told me to use fdisk and delete that DOS partition. Then recreate it. To my surprise
Windows still worked after that. I always thought that fdisk would corrupt the Windows partition
somehow since it was a destructive partitioning tool. So I have always used Partition Magic instead
for my partitioning needs. If I install Linux on a separate partition and decide to get rid of it
later using fdisk, Windows will still be intact right? From my understanding now,....

Can You Create A Folder Name "con"
Is it possible to create a folder named "CON" in Windows? (19) I tried in both Windows XP Home and Professional. If you try to make a folder named "CON" Windows XP
renames it back to what it was. So creating a new folder with the name "CON" just renames it to "New

the folder from a cmd prompt failed with an error "The directory name is invalid.". This also works
