QUOTE(hitman-forever @ Apr 11 2005, 12:16 AM) why Windows XP is so slow? finaldesign and sasux, you have a point but there are alot of factors that may make Windows XP slow. You may want to consider doing just that and using Windows XP's built in services.msc, msconfig and regedit to disable unwanted services, what programs to run during startup and tweaking your registry settings will help. Refer to the Windows subforum in How-To's and Tutorials for more details on how to optimize your computer.

QUOTE(soleimanian @ Apr 9 2005, 08:06 AM) hold down CTRL and select your windows on taskbar and then right click on one of the windows on taskbar and click Close Group. This may well have been the most life-saving-est thing I have found in a long, long while. Up until now, I have been using TweakUI to configure how Windows XP bunches up my windows into groups. I always wanted a way to close/tile several windows. Up until now, I had assumed that doing so with fewer (two or so) windows was impossible. Doing this with windows of different programs? Simply impossible, I thought. In conclusion: thank you for making my day. Or month. Or year. Or however long I keep using Windows

QUOTE(hitman-forever @ Apr 10 2005, 12:16 PM) why Windows XP is so slow? I will be able to help you. I recommend these solutions: Clearing your browser cache by: using Internet Explorer right now and click "Tools" and "Internet Options". Not letting you? That means Windows Security blocked it. If it lets you, click "Delete Files" (and all of the offline files). Defragmenting your files by: Going to Start>>> All Programs>>> Accessories>>> System Tools>>> Disk Defragmenter Again, if Windows Security blocked it, sorry! Click the Defragment button to your main hard drive. I recommend you do this overnight as the process could take up to 2 hours depending on the size of the free space on your hard drive and the memory on your computer. The last resort is a terrible one, but that's the final idea: Insert your Windows Operating System Install Disc. Turn off your computer. +Remember to print out this page as you need it! Turn on the computer. If prompted, press enter to the option "Run from CD" When the Blue screen says "Select partition", press DEL to all partitions. WARNING: This will completely delete all documents. PLEASE BACK UP YOUR DOCUMENTS AND ONLY THAT! This process should take 30 minutes to erase the hard drive; and 30 minutes to install the files to your hard drive all over again. If you are using Windows XP: Wait for the Drivers, Network, Display, and Regional Settings to be installed. You will be prompted to configure the Regional settings during the install, so stay put in the first 10 minutes of the install. After that, wait for all the installation and configurations are complete. When they are, you will be asked to complete the registration for your operating system. IF YOU ARE USING WINDOWS XP, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO CONNECT TO A TOLL-FREE NUMBER TO ACTIVATE YOUR XP LICENSE. If you have exceeded the amount of uses for your OS license, you must call a toll-free activation hotline. Tell Microsoft you had to re-install your operating system for a technical reason. Note: A modem or a broadband connection is required. Have a high-speed internet connection? Don't re-install the service again! Your computer finds the connection for you. You will be connected even when you start up your computer for the very first time. Remember to read the End-User License Agreement (EULA) supplied by your OEM and Microsoft.

This is quite interesting. A tip I find quite useful when you want to access your user account folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name), is to click Start>Run and type . (a full-stop) and press enter. It saves all the hassle of typing "C:\Documents and Setings\..." and so on.

It's amazing, where do you keep getting these tips from??? @Blix: good link, tough most tweaks are quite common, but there are 2 things I'd like to point out. First of all, the tweak of setting your pagefile at 1.5*RAM is not correct. It does depend a lot on your system and what you do with it. Second thing, use bootvis at your own risk, m$ stopped the support for a reason, and for once they where right, it managed to kill a fresh install of XP1 on my computer.

How To Improve Windows.
(7) Lets face facts Windows is currently the most used operating system in the world. That said, let us
also admit that Windows is not the greatest OS out there either. (that would be Unix) So ignoring
completely ones opinions of Windows let's imagine we had the power to chance Windows completely
and were able to disregard previous Windows implementations (if you so choose ie the start menu) and
Microsoft marketing techniques. How would you change Windows to make it better? For me the most
fundamental change would be to make it more like Linux or OS X and have the kern....

Why I May Be Installing Windows Xp Sp3 Again
(10) This is a sad tale of a man and his machine that would not start again. The story continues with a

problems began last weekend when I started my computer after it had been off from the previous
night. Everything went normally throughout the POST but once Windows XP started I heard the dreaded
clicking from the hard drive. After several reboots and a Spinrite diagnostic I gave up and called
the time of death around three in the afternoon. This is not all bad because I had....

that it makes using the PC not a breeze. I haven't tried it yet, but from others' point of
view, it seems to be intrusive and annoying. 2. Your music may be a click away from your re....

Will Using Fdisk Corrupt Windows Partition?
(9) I remember doing this before in the past with a DOS partition. It wasn't working properly, so
the office tech told me to use fdisk and delete that DOS partition. Then recreate it. To my surprise
Windows still worked after that. I always thought that fdisk would corrupt the Windows partition
somehow since it was a destructive partitioning tool. So I have always used Partition Magic instead
for my partitioning needs. If I install Linux on a separate partition and decide to get rid of it
later using fdisk, Windows will still be intact right? From my understanding now,....

How Can I Make Xp User Autologin ?

Can You Create A Folder Name "con"
Is it possible to create a folder named "CON" in Windows? (19) I tried in both Windows XP Home and Professional. If you try to make a folder named "CON" Windows XP
renames it back to what it was. So creating a new folder with the name "CON" just renames it to "New
Folder". The bug seems like a variable that got treated as a string or vice-versa. Trying to create
the folder from a cmd prompt failed with an error "The directory name is invalid.". This also works
when you try to create a file called "CON", or "CON.". ".CON" shows up the way it should. Somewhere
I found the reason that CON stands for CONsole which is device name but....
The Best Version Of Windows
(42) With all the different flavors of Windows, what in your opinion is the best version? Win95, Win98,
Win98SE, WinNT, Win2000, WinXP, Vista, and even remember Windows 3.1? I hear that hardcore Windows
users are in love with Win98SE for some reason? Is there any justification behind this? I mean
this is a version of Windows that is definitely not supported anymore, but is the security and

like Win2000 over any other version. It seems more secure and stable, and I'm pr....
