Man, and just when I thought that they were doing better with their Royale aka "energy blue" theme for Windows XP. This looks horrible, in my opinion. That MSN bar is huge and very unnecessary. I'm probably biased though since I'm a linux user as well as a minimalist when it comes to my desktop.

That MSN bar is huge and very unnecessary. I'm probably biased though since I'm a linux user as well as a minimalist when it comes to my desktop. Completely agree with that. The msn bar, though probably disposable, consumes a huge part of the screen (strikingly similar to the old MSN Channel Bar - don't you think?). And if that's the all new Start Menu, I think I'm going to start using XP Dont know how the final product will come out - but the whole interface looks immensely bloated up and shaky.... it still has a long way to go before it can catch up with the finesse thats been present in the Mac interface since day 1.

Whoa. Sure looks flashy. Linuxers may not like its bloatedness, but the Windows Newbies might--depends on how you look at it. Who knows? Good thing Linux has some time to come up with their own products before Longhorn finally comes out.

Thats what they said about windows '98. Frankily from a desicn perspective, its an ugly design, way to flashy and graphics dependent. It looks like something for a child its so cartoony. I was expecting them to improve the XP look and feel, but once again they make an inferior product. WTF man WTF?

But then it gonna break sometime, something will give way, something will break. Its the same with everything it can do well for ages but then it will eventually break, I tried that with a stereo before they eventually do break and if it does then there may be big scale mail loss. But then maybe it will last another double its life.

Sorry cryptonx can't help but laugh at those statistics. I knew of a dedicated mailserver (that's probably still running) at one of these universities back home - I'm talking about 6 years back. It was a measly Pentium Pro system running on one of the relatively earlier versions of Linux. It boasted an uptime of 3 years at that time, and when I revisited a few years back it was still up without a single reboot - which made it a total of 5 years I think. It was so dedicated to it's work, that the admin pulled out the monitor and keyboard and let it just lie in one corner of the room and carry on its work without any disturbance Well, thats whats called REAL UPTIME ....

BSD and Linux server uptimes generally average around 5 years. and even thn they are only shutdown because of powercuts, hardware and kernel upgrades.

Lets face facts Windows is currently the most used operating system in the world. That said, let us
also admit that Windows is not the greatest OS out there either. (that would be Unix) So ignoring
completely ones opinions of Windows let's imagine we had the power to chance Windows completely
and were able to disregard previous Windows implementations (if you so choose ie the start menu) and
Microsoft marketing techniques. How would you change Windows to make it better? For me the most
fundamental change would be to make it more like Linux or OS X and have the kern...

Recently, I have received an "Exploring Windows" email from Microsoft, which led me to an

Vista, and it was. Here are some of my opinions: 1. It makes using your PC a breeze, if Windows is
responding most of the time. Also, many users have complained about User Account Control, which say
that it makes using the PC not a breeze. I haven't tried it yet, but from others' point of
view, it seems to be intrusive and annoying. 2. Your music may be a click away from your re...

Can You Create A Folder Name "con"

I tried in both Windows XP Home and Professional. If you try to make a folder named "CON" Windows XP

the folder from a cmd prompt failed with an error "The directory name is invalid.". This also works

Will Using Fdisk Corrupt Windows Partition?

I remember doing this before in the past with a DOS partition. It wasn't working properly, so
the office tech told me to use fdisk and delete that DOS partition. Then recreate it. To my surprise
Windows still worked after that. I always thought that fdisk would corrupt the Windows partition
somehow since it was a destructive partitioning tool. So I have always used Partition Magic instead
for my partitioning needs. If I install Linux on a separate partition and decide to get rid of it
later using fdisk, Windows will still be intact right? From my understanding now,...
