Window Xp Proffesional - Explorer Freeze Up!

doudou
Lately, my Window Explorer tends to freeze all the time. I end up having to end it, and never can organize my files like I want. I’ve sweeped for spyware, check virus and made sure my firewall is in place. What am I missing? Any suggestions?

probably buggy system files. do a repair installation, that will probably fix it.

You might want to run a system file check first to see if it can repair any system files that are missing or corrupted.

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD.

Not with Windows Explorer you can not update wink.gif

Microsoft only provides updates for Internet Explorer. The one doudou is talking about is where you use to move/copy files. Right click on Start Menu and choose Explorer. That one biggrin.gif

There is a way to launch each explorer process separately. This most likely will not fix the root cause of the problem but it might help in diagnostics.

From My computer

Tools>Folder Options>View

Check Launch folder windows in separate process

But theoretically will run even slower...
