I am guessing that something probably got messed up in the installation of vista. What i would suggest doing, formatting your hard drive, and then reinstalling XP and vista. Make sure that you don't install any programs from the time you install XP to when you install vista. See if that helps, if not Microsoft provides free installation support (or at least they used to).

Upgrade the full way! xboxrulz It's not because he downloaded vista that it is persé illegal. You can legaly download vista, but that's only the business version. And why running both along side ? Because not everything works on vista like it works on XP. joe, considering your problem. I suggest you first do a full virus scan (I see you've been doing on, but I think you're using Norton ... baaaaad choise, try doing an online virusscan, or install a virus-scanner without on-access protection, like the free version of bit-defender, or Clam Anti-virus portable). Next, scan for malware using ad-aware and spybot s&d. Infection is one option. What you might try is booting the WinXP cd in recovery and ruling out Vista's boot manager by doing a fixmbr. Next, try the same for Vista. Last but not least, start backing up your data ...

I'm afraid there is something bad in the partition table, due to the dual Windows install. Remember that Windows puts things you don't master (like boot.ini) in places you would not expect them to be. However, the freezing looks more like a hardware problem, bad blocks on your hard disk and/or too many retries on the Ethernet adapter. Remember that simply a faulty Ethernet cable can cause a system freeze ! In order to evacuate the hardware hypothesis, may I suggest you to boot on a Linux or a Windows LiveCD, and see if the problem remains ? If the problem remains witth a liveCD, this means that the problem is not from the Operating System nor from the Hard Disk. I would also like to suggest you to read this topic : http://www.astahost.com/messed-up-boot-ini...sta-t14691.html It's from the "Similar topics" section of the forum, and I found it effectively very similar. Seems that a lot of people canot have a correct dual-boot with both XP and Vista.

QUOTE ok here is it.... after a week of downloading Vista Ultimate i now have some serious problems, before i begin, here's my Pc Information (Compatipal with Vista): Hey congrats you lasted a week on an untested microsoft program I don't know how to fix the problems other then calling tech help or posting on Microsofts forums and emailing them (unless your computer is too glitchy to do that). Windows XP SP2 has that error on it also sometimes. They set it up so when you close a window, it moves the windows left slowly but sometimes glitchs if you have a real fragmented computer. Do you have XP and Vista on the same computer? Maby thats why? Don't use IE explorer unless you really need to. It is one of the worst explorers in my opinion. Hope this helps, Sparkx

I think that if it's software-related, it could be a bug in the vista installation. I had a problem once (with XP, not Vista) where somehow there was a glitch in the install, and then my computer processor would run at 100% until it overheated or i shut it down manually. reinstalling worked, not repairing. Either that, or perhaps your power supply isn't rated high enough to provide the extra power the graphic card needs for Windows Aero.

and feel Vista has to offer when it comes to eyecandy and functionality, there are a few ways you

[trick] Installing Xp Last And Still Dual Boot
For Windows Vista (0) QUOTE This was a tough one, but I managed to prove my theory that XP can be installed last and
still added to the bootloader. It was simple to do with two cmd lines, but damn hard to find and
figure out. My first problem getting Vista off of XP (I didn't want to use VistaBootPro in
solving this puzzle) so I could add XP after the Vista install without any traces of it left from

quicker way with bootsect.exe. The syntax is: E:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force (....

Problems Installing Vista

the amount of disk space I allocated for the install or the memory assigned. Well, I gave it all I
got today. I set VMware to give it 15GB of hard drive space and 512MB of memory. It seems to work.
