OK! Which is faster? DSL or CABLE? Seriously.. I can't tell Some people say cable is faster, but other people say that now dsl matches the speed of cable or it's better or something So.. I'm kind of confused... I have DSL and it's pretty fast, while my friend has CABLE... which.. her's is a bit slow.. (maybe its her computer??) Anyway, someone help me out Which is faster? DSL or CABLE?... (if only i had t3.. that would solve everything.. *sigh* )
I would like a DS3 line that would be really cool, could download linux distros in minutes. Im with ADSL and its pretty fast, no idea though, cant egt cable where i live.
wel, in belgium, they say the max cable speed to be around 6.6mbps
dsl should be able to get speeds up to 8mbps, but that'll cost you quite a lot too i think
next to that, i think cable is still being limited because servers can't handle it. it apears to me that cable should be able to become faster as the signal travels faster... not sure though.
one thing is for sure: if you live in a forgotten place, go for cable. dsl slows down the further you are away from the server

We can get 10Mbps or 100Mbps Cable here which can be connected to a 100Mbps Fibre Optic network, but only available in Central Business District and well over most people's budget.
ADSL can reach speeds up to 8Mbps but it's not guaranteed to run at that rate, Wireless has similar speeds but is only good for downloading only.
Which is faster can not be said, if you opt for 2Mbit ADSL vs 2Mbit Cable, it should be the same, only limitations can be said by line condition, ISP, shared, your location, etc
Wow, all this tech talk, and I was just going to express my personal experience! Ah well. From what I've seen (around my area) the most I ever squeezed out of my cable modem was 450kbps and that was from downloading Linux isos from multiple servers. At the same time, I hear people I know with DSL boasting 96kbps speeds, and I just chuckle inside my head... Then I laugh out loud
Of course, at the same time, I know a guy that is hooked into an OC3 internet connection, and when I ask him if he had an such and such 700 meg iso and he said "no"... 5 minutes later he'd say "ok, got it!"
One: Cable & DSL speeds depend on what your provider caps you on and what your modem can handle. My connection is capped at 6.6Mbit/s, meaning a max of 660Kb/s download speed. But my modem can handle 40Mbit/s (aka 4Mb/s download).
Two: The server you're downloading from is the biggest factor. They most often have a speed limit as well; depending on how you use them; that can be 5kb/s, 20kb/s; 300kb/s; 1Mb/s; ...... If you have a connection that can go 660Kb/s, and the server you're downloading from can only send at 5Kb/s, then u can get a connection as fast and expensive as you want to, you won't download any faster...
Three: Cable is a shared net, therefore, if your max speed is 660Kb/s, and you have lots and lots of people in your neighbourhood downloading at the same time; you will not be able to reach that maximum. Because the shared net is being saturated. There's actually a max limit for each Hub (the master of one small shared network of a cable distribution, you, your neighbours, and ppl living in your street/block, ..) and when alot of ppl download, you come too close to the max limit, so you can't download as fast anymore.
It totaly depends on the provider. Here in Belgium, we have two big isp's. One is cable and one is adsl/vdsl. Max speed for adsl is 8 mbps, but vdsl can handle 50 mbps, and will be available soon. Cable is now @10 mbps, but eurodocis 2 can change that too.
Cable has other bad point, like the shared net as lhunath said and downlaod volume limitations.
In my country Pakistan dsl is faster than cable. So im with dsl.I have a cable connection but it runs so slow. But i have some tricks to fast the speed. So i have no problem with cable but dsl faster than cable. ok
Cable would probably be faster where i live because not many people would have it, however i would always get adsl ove cable because it's so much more reliable. I like to have a consistant speed all the time so i can better judge how long it will take to download thing etc.
this one is almost as debatable as windows vs. linux. cable is faster down, some dsl is faster up. so its really wut u want to use ur inet conn for. if u want to run a basic ftp server or any other server. dsl is good. but if u want fast internet speeds and d/l speeds. cable is the way to go... im talkin about real dsl too, not that crappy hickory tech and some others that come with phone service as well.
don't know... i have to work on wireless broadband from my cell phone as my college and hostel is some some corner of bangalore where gettin a phone line can be difficult!! but there are lots of cell towers around so no problem :-)
People!!!!!!!!!!!!! don't make me green with envy !! Ok so i live in the biggest dump in the world (Romania) here i have a cable connection with this specs: 1 suposed 2 get 256 d/l but i get 70 if the sun is heating the cable 2 the thing i wander is that i get 300 at u/l ????? not all the time but this does not comphort me 3 and i PAY 50 USD /month for this s**t !! 4 DSL is only in it's beginings so i can't say squat !!
I have never had a cable connection so I won't comment on that part.
Currently I have a DSL connection which is prefectly fine. Altough sometimes it doesnt work as well as I would like it to, it gets the job done. I think you should look at the pricing of both and decide for yourself.
When dialup was common, I heard about people connecting two phone lines so it was faster. Could I do
that with broadband, the router delivers 12mbps, but I get about 2.5, and I have a extra cable.....
Faster and Secured Hosting. ComputingHost will be activating open_basedir
permissions on all its servers. Previously, we had it active on only a few select servers, however
to make our hosting envoirment secure, We have now decided to activate it throughout our cluster.
Some of you might be wondering, What is open_basedir protection exactly? Open_basedir
limits the files that can be opened by PHP to the specified directory-tree, including the file
itself. This directive is NOT affected by whether Safe Mode is turned On or Off. If you....

Just took a look at one of my user's computer and found a very strange problem. For some odd
reason, he must sign into AOL in order to use his internet. I would understand if this is required
if he is using AOL as his main connection, but he is using a dedicated cable service line. The same
thing is happening to his other computer (requires him to sign onto AOL first before he can
connect). After playing around with it for a while, Internet Explorer connected without
AOHell's assistance. I made sure AOL was completely signed off and tried a few more websites and....

Been thinking of using these converters on my IDE hard drives so they are 'SATA
compliant'. I see that it will be using both the SATA type power connector and also a 4 pin
(floppy drive type) connector. Have anyone used these IDE to SATA adapters before? Are both power
cables required in order to make a drive operational? I will also be getting a SATA PCMCIA card for
my laptop and that's where this will play a important role. I have no idea how to give it power
if I want to use it as an external...what kind of cable to get for external use (4 pin connector....
Hello everyone. I have a problem and perhaps you can help me out? I have a samsung d900 and I want
to install games using a data cable. Does anyone know how to do it? Thanks in advance!....
Please assist me, O Astahost gurus! I just got a data cable to connect my LG CG225 cell phone to my
computer through a USB port so that I can transfer audio and image files back and forth without
using my cell to connect to the internet and thereby pay fees. The cable works fine, but the
software that came with it (Mobile Action) doesn't work. I was able to go to the MA website and
find an updated driver and management software for my phone, but that software will only allow me to
send SMS messages (without attached audio files or images) and to sync up my contact....
Hi, Just wanted to check if anyone there knows Eiffel? Eiffel is not well known language that was
created in 1986 by Bertrand Meyer. Eiffel has many implementations, one from it's author -
implementation free for Open Source projects and very costy for others... but Eiffel also has one
fully OpenSource implementation... so what is so good about it that it's worth to learn other

With the advent of broadband connectivity, the websites are nowadays loading much more faster than
the past without much optimisation. But at the same time, the visitors are probably looking for
something more faster. They are not in a mood to wait for more than a few seconds to see the
requsted url being loaded. So, in view of this changing scenario one needs to optimise webpages so
that they load faster. So here is the brief guideline you may follow to make it load your webpages
faster. 1. Load as much information as you can when a page loads for the first time. Use ....
Everyday my cable modem keeps disconnecting me. I get disconnected at least 3 times a day. I tried
reformatting my computer to see if any viruses is causing it. After reformatting it worked but after
upgrading it to service pack 4, it happened again. Is it the computer that's causing this or the
cable modem. The cable modem is pretty new, it's only 4 months old. Can someone help me with
this?....
I've been having this problem lately of dropping off-line (always on, cable access) I
use to have to cycle (unplug and replug) the Cable Modem and the Router (wired Router) in sequence
to get back on-line. So I replaced the Cable Modem and Router. Now I'm dropping offline less
often, and I can get back on by just cycling the Router. Q. Is there anyway to "test" a Cable Modem
and/or Router to see for sure where the "stoppage" is? ....
I have a 128k connection that is shared between 6 computers. one computer connects directly to the
internet and the others connect through this shared connection. Now I know that already, this is not
a good idea, because 128k split over so many will really slow it down, but until I can get a second
line there's really no way around it. And I know that the host computer will take the lion's
share of the bandwidth. My question is: How can I make sure that the remaining speed is divided
equally between the other computers? Right now one or two other computers will ....

My cousin's computer seems to have a bad VGA monitor cable. The problem is that when I turn it
on, it seems to be ok, it says auto-configure....then it goes blank (orange light on monitor power
button). I looked at the VGA connector pins and see that pins 4 and 11 are missing. Just to be
curious, I looked at the end connected to the LCD and it's also missing pins 4 and 11. Is this a
coincidence? From what I found, these are what it corresponds to: 4 ID2 Monitor ID Bit 2 11
ID0 Monitor ID Bit 0 Is this responsible for the shot display and then blank screen? ....

"WiFiber" tech faster than fiber? Virginia startup GigaBeam set their sights high with their

the product as a replacement for fiber optic pipes in situations when they're too expensive, too
