I am a full time employee. At the same time programmer but now I'm hooked in web developing. I hope to be self-employed someday. What else I can say?

What's Your Profession? - Let the community see who you are

twitch
I decided to make this topic to let the community get to know each other more.

I understand that we are not all in the areas of work of Design, Development or Hardware. So, it would be nice to share with the community, our walks of life.

At the moment, I am at secondary school, close to taking my GCSEs. Soon, I will be in College and perhaps later on I may go to University - of which I am not sure about.

I hopefully want to have a career in Web Design and Development, or set up my own multimedia company.

So, what are you doing at the moment and what are your ambitions?

Notice from m^e:
I took the liberty to add a poll, so that we can come up with some simple demographics about the profession distribution of our members.

Well, I'm a student here in the States. I'm a junior right now (English major, creative writing minor). Computer-related things are important to me, but I know that I'm not interested enough (or skilled/talented enough) to do anything with them as a profession. I guess you could just call me an advanced hobby user or something like that: someone who can do basic stuff, but will back away slowly when it comes to the more advanced things.

I should graduate with my bachelor's in English in a couple of years or less. After that, I'm probably going to grad school for an MFA in creative writing, as that's what I actually want to do with my life. I'd like to teach creative writing at a community college or a small university while I write my own fiction.

Oh, and I procrastinate - which is why I'm around here so much. Hehe. Well, back to studying for my Latin mid-term. (I think it's incredibly stupid that English majors are required to learn a foreign language. It makes no sense. But requirements are requirements, I guess.)

Hi, I'm an exchange pupil on a Swedish gymnasium. When I come back to Germany next year I have 2 years of school left, then I'll try to become a journalist or something in this direction.
I might use my limited computer and web design skills to help in my friends circle on a private basis to make some extra money while studying but I'm pretty sure that I'm too impatient to code big stuff and I got no sense for design or not much at least ^^ I'm learning...

Me graduated with a 4-yr degree in CS with empasis on IT (not that it helped me learn too much over what I'd picked up myself about computers since the 6th grade).. however it did point me to the right direction and reconfirmed my beliefs in myself as to what I should do for a career.

Here I am, software developer (.NET & Java) - running my own firm and actively handling some humongous projects, which include:
1. Designing an ultra flexible & complete, school and university management solution, which is nearing completion.
2. Designing a system that would help in monitoring the remotest agricultural/farming stations in a country from a central location - and keep a tab on yearly produce & inventory as well - just getting started on it.
3. Designing (hopefully) a solution that would give rise to an automated transport control system for public utility vehicles, thus preventing road accidents and collisons - this one would be a bomb although a far cry wink.gif

All my work involves the development of distributed appz in a largely networked environment spanning from a building block to nationwide...

P.S. I was never the orderly type o' guy - i.e. could never keep up with a fixed schedule. So I kind of knew that I'd never do well under a regular 9-5 schedule. So as soon as I graduated and got a God-given opportunity to jump into my own business, I did so right-away. To me, nothing better than being your own master wink.gif

Right now I am a normal..... Kind of normal..... Junior at Clintonville highschool. Last year I got a job as a GM for the Illian server in WoW. When I get out of this place, I will be going to Michigan Tech for 4year computer/game programming and networking annaylisys. I am A+ certified. (I have been since January 14th) And when I get out of the tech I will try to get a job at either Blizzard, Or Valve (The two hardest software companies. I really want to go, but I doubt I will get in there since they have the biggest requirements for the programming/modeling jobs) Some day I will work for Blizzard or Valve though. If I cant get a job at either one of those. I will get a job at EA-Games for FPS games

A college?

xboxrulz, if you became a game designer (and developer) you could be earning £30,00 annually and a company car (taken from advert wink.gif ) As a game designer, and taking the course in it, employers would expect you to be able to program/design for Windows and the other large OS. Becuase Linux is a freeware based system, it will be slightly harder to find a company that will pay you a good wage to make games for Linux. Although the market is out there, and you would do well to start now, there are not so many companies with specialists in designing games for Linux.

Killer008, sounds like you will be making a lot of money in the future, good luck.

Thanks for the poll and pinned and moved topic m^e, the demeographic view so far, shows that most people (that have voted) are School kids (I suppose it is High School (secondary), College or Uni).

Like many other people here, I am still a student in high school. I am in the class of 2008 here in the United States and am a rising sophmore. Anyways, I have my mind made up to go to the Art Institute of Graphic Design in California or Virginia Commonwealth University (probably the former) and major in web and graphic design, or something of sort. I, myself, like fiddling around in Photoshop and usually just sit in front of a computer all day looking and web and graphic design tutorials (I'm such a geek). Unfortunately, I have extremely small experience in Photoshop CS or CS2 as I work with the extremely old Photoshop 6.0 (I really need to upgrade).

My first day here was good. I think that there should be aa new section that is dedicated to

Hi all, Hi all, I find myself mentioning how much I enjoy my “Reefing” at work… and get the
strangest of looks. Figure before you get those same looks here, I’d let you know a little about my
hobby. About 15 years ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Hawaii for holiday. There are
many wonderful things to do there, but what stayed with me the most, was going snorkeling for a day.
Floating over the water, looking down at all the beautiful fish, seeing all the little creatures
yet unknown to me crawling in between the various colorful corals… was like a slice....
