What If..... Was Invented In 2008

I just started this topic for all you what-if'er(s) out there. I guess you can type down what you would like if
you had a what-if technology or invention. Would it a vehicle that runs on information. Some cool multi-function
artificial intelligent pda, virtual Internet made up of 3d halographics, some wonder tonic with healing effects.

I'm not sure what you would like, I'm just greasing the wheels here. Of course I would like to see all thoughs
prototype/concept vehicles come to reality. An a merger of Video console machines with office productivity
capability for at home businesses. I would also like a new storage medium like scratch resistant crystals/cubes
instead of BlueRay or HDDVD.

Feel free to contribute to this list. Oh if someone's ideas has already appeared in a movie or something it is okay
to point it out, cause they might have not known about it.

Nice idea. ^^
I would like a big hamster wheel thing that you put criminals in to generate power.
But technology wise - I would like a program that is easy to use and is specialised to create clothing fabrics. I always find that fabrics are the worst to digitally recreate.
Speaking of movies; I quite liked the transport vehicles in The Golden Compass. They were all very pretty. I wouldn't mind if there was a similar version made for public/MY use.

Moral super computers. We spend far too long over morals (like pig transplants), but its all logic so just let a computer do it.

I find that giving a robot morals would be another step towards a giant robot take-over. O.o
But I suppose if they had a certain type of moral then they probably would run the world better than the corrupt political peoples.

A hard drive with unlimited space! I always ran out of space in my computer. I think it would be very useful. I will then be able to save tons of movies, games.. etc..

You'd need infinite energy to move data around, and therefore it'd weigh (speed of light squared)/infinity.

A super power wash that can clean an entire house in moments... That way I can just spend my time with my kids and not always having to clean up after them! Just eat and sleep and when you go out for an errand or two, hit the power button after locking the house up, and when you come back home, it's nice and clean and shiny!

Hmmm, does this reply mean that I need to get out more!!??

I like the topic, and I am sure I will be adding more!

I don't know it would be that complicated. But it is still nice if we have that kind of disk.

I would definitely go for a satnav system which actually works, without sending you on ridiculous routes where vehicles were never meant to go, or are not allowed to go, or taking you miles and miles out of your way!

Ahaha i discovered not long ago that Nano-machines can be used to do various ammounts of things for example you can get glass which have nano machines on the surface and they stop dirt from going onto your windows. It also makes the glass waterproof so therefore the rain does not smear your windows making them look horrible.

But what if Nano-machines could be used for other things? for example keeping your laminated floor clean from dust etc? or keeping your keyboard clean from food or liquids? haha

The possiblitys of Nano-machines are endless. I for one would like to see MOAR nano-machines.

A "sleep" switch for humans. You have no idea how long I lie in bed trying to fall asleep

. One time, I went to bed at 9:00 and didn't fall asleep until 2:00 - such a waste of time!

I think the next big thing will have to be a solution for the Bluetooths. As much as people want them to become normal, there's just no getting around the fact that you're standing there, talking to thin air. So here we go: a hands-free phone that projects a 3-D image of the person you are talking to. Of course, the size and direction of the projection would be adjustable so that you could stand them on your desk or just have them move along next to you while you're walking (or standing on the passenger seat or dashboard while you're driving!) That way, you get to have a normal conversation and people around you know you aren't losing your mind.
