I am running on a lot of different versions here at work. I was hoping to try to post in a Mac forum. I don't usually use Macs, but I have too many of them here at work. We have an old G3, and right now I am running on a Leopard... And there is also a design computer that runs on Tiger. So many Macs, but plan to try to update them all if we can. I am just trying to remember how to pull so... read more.
QUOTE(Jguy101 @ Nov 11 2005, 08:24 AM) Just curious to see what the statistics were... I have Jaguar on my iMac, but sadly, her display fried a couple months ago. OS 8, the most stable out of all i guess ?? am i wrong ? Well i have a G3 so err .. upgrading to OS 9 or X is not possible for me. But having tried out OS X i belive that X is more better in user compatibility and graphics. Can i install OS x on a G3 ( A PowerPC upgraded to a G3 to be precise ) Regards Dhanesh.
Hmm...I dunno. I know someone was offering something that would let you install OS X on ancient Macs...but I dunno if yours would count as ancient. Are you sure you couldn't install OS 9?

Are you sure you couldn't install OS 9? Yep , dead shure, cause installation of OS 9 requires a G4 and frankly my dad dosent wana upgrade. He like the way things go in smooth, no matter if its 10 years after OS X released. So i was thinking of changing things around for him. I dont think its just my dad, i mean many people have this mind set that once things are running smooth, y bother to upgrade or change etc. When things get nasty and an upgrade is needed, then comes the bad part lol. Newayz, hopefully hez happy with 8, and incase i am really shure about 9 or X installation on a G3, i'll go on and smoke a few MChip's Regards Dhanesh.
OS 9 requiring a G4? No way! I had it on my 600 megahertz G3 iMac before her display fried...and it also came on iMacs that have much slower processor speed, like 350 or 400 megahertz. Heck, OS X runs fine on G3s...just not as well with the slower chips.
I had OS 9.2.2 on my iMac G3 for years, the upgrading installation was no problem. There is even a way to get OS X on a iMac G3, but it is difficult, because the system comes on DVDs and the old iMac don't have DVD. But you can exchange DVDs for CDs and that it's easy. There is a website on it, if you want it, I find it for you (try Google for "OS X on iMac").
Yeah, but that's only for the latest version of OS X. OS 9 is on CD; heck, my iMac came with two Jaguar install CD-ROMs. It probably wouldn't be too hard to find old version of Mac OS for sale online, so I'd recommend buying an issue of MacWorld or MacAddict. They have large advertisement areas towards the end, and a couple eyars ago, I saw ads for palces that were selling OS 8! If that doesn't work, try eBay or Overstock.com Auctions.
errr.. yeah, but no one wants mac os x 8 here, right?
when did they start with giving out dvds instead of cdroms? which system? Can't you buy CDs directly or do you have to trade the DVDs to CDs (for money..)?
Well, I ddin't mean to get OS 8...but since that was a couple years ago, and they ahd System 8, then you'd probably still be able to get OS 9 or earlier versions of OS X.
I don't know when they started using DVDs for OS installation, but it was probably Panther or Tiger.
I am running OS 9 on my iMac G3, and I am also running OS X 10.4-Tiger on two other computers. I do wish I had an older SE/30 or something to run System 7 on, though. I'd like to use MacPaint.

I am just trying to remember how to pull so many files left and right, and I keep thinking PC and it like always makes so many copies!
But I do like to use the Macs for the design suites. I just think that I got so used to right clicking on a PC that I need to remember not to Ctrl the operations, but use the info key. Man oh man, so much to try to remember!
