| | When I am on a Unix system or on a Linux system, I use a configuration file named ".netrc", which stores my most used ftp settings. Is there an equivalent for ftp under Windows XP ? I tried testing/guessing, I failed, it's not net.rc nor .netrc. It's not horribly necessary, but I would like to know what replaces .netrc on a Windows machine. |

Hello, I think hosts.equiv in the dir \%WINDIR%\system32\drivers\etc, is what you are looking for. Got it from: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/i...oc/admin151.htmDon't know if it's true or whatsoever! I just googled for ".netrc on windows" and it was the first thing that came up. bakr_2k5

OK, it's almost exact. Unfortunately, netrc is for the server side, not for the client-pc side. The same paper from boulder seems to say that on windows the netrc info is in the registry : QUOTE Use the Host Information tab of setnet32 to edit the netrc information. Of course, everybody knows how to use the setnet32 tab to edit the netrc information!

hehe .. Well I don't know it .. I'm a linux user! You need help with the setnet32? I can hunt google for you! Hope i didn't understand your post wrong .. Kinda tired! bakr_2k5 <edit> setnet32 is from IBM so i think it's better to use MS created software for these purposes? Or edit the register, to keep it a bit clean! </edit> <edit2> Ok i found something about a hosts file, don't know if it's the same but it's worth a shot http://www.beemerworld.com/tips/xphosts.htmI think it's the equivalent of the netrc in *nux? I don't know it all for sure since i'm not really busy with networking etc. </edit2>

QUOTE You need help with the setnet32? I can hunt google for you! Thanks a lot. To be honest, I wanted a little help from a guy who already did that. I'm a Linux user (more precisely a Unix user) and I have no problem with Linux. I was just a little bit angry because the things I am easily doing under Unix, under IBM AIX and under Linux, don't seem possible when I have a Crosoft Windows keyboard. So i just wanted to know if the same kind of things was possible. However, I know the address www.google.com, so I can go there and get theoretical papers, I just wanted to know if a guy here at astahost already faced this kind of issue and solved it. Regards Yordan

Tracing Broadcast Storms
A poorly managed or configured layer 2 switch may affect network laten (1) In some cases, a single layer 2 switching device configured improperly can cause serious
connectivity problems, especially on a large network. Problems of this nature behave similar to
Denial of Service (DoS) attacks but are slightly easier to track. Most intranets serve a central
location where other internal networks are connected. Whether it is a remote off-site location or
only accessible by taking an underground railway, it's usually the best place to start
disconnecting backbones to find out which physical subnet is causing the problem. Broadcast storms

Extending A Wireless Network
Wireless Internet (2) Usually, to integrate WiFi capabilities into an existing LAN involves interfacing a wireless router
with an existing LAN and configuring it as an access point. If it is meant for free public use, then
it may not be necessary to encrypt the transmission, otherwise it is advisable to encrypt it with at
leas a 64-bit WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) key. Depending on the gain in db of the attached
antenna, the radius of wireless coverage can vary from 250meters to close to 450meters. Now comes
the stage where we need to extend the coverage of the wireless transmission, t....

Unable To Connect My Comp. To A Wireless Network

School Network
What do you think? (14) Our high school just got the new version of Novell ZenWorks, and it has some awesome features.
I'm a computer tech at the school, so I get to use many of these features. I think one of the

turn them on, log them in, and even lock the local mouse and keyboard. It's really fun to spy
on people in the library and computer labs, and lock people's workstation controls, although I
