WC3,Why Not?

I think that WC3 is very important for create open page, that every one in the world can see as you, but I think that Wc3 restrictions are so much thata a WebDevolper has some problems to create at the same time a functional page, and the Wc3 page..What do you think?

Heh, well I also close up tags to make the site look right, not some random coding here and there wink.gif But I usually respect WC3 regulations, but not always, like I voted above.

First of all it's W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), they develop the Web Specifications with the help of Web Developers. I don't know what you mean by restrictions as W3C hasn't stopped my ability in writing pages, infact it increased my user-awareness so that more people could benefit from my site, and knowing that the site is in compliance with W3C means that a lot of browsers will support it.

That's the whole reason of creating a standard, if we left Netscape and Microsoft to duke it out, we wouldn't see much when viewing sites due to browsers having different implementation and less support for their competitors.

Programming Languages have their standards, ANSI/ISO create standards. These are people who are making sure that big companies don't get carried away and start implementing things that serve no benefit other than to increase their reputation and drive their competitors away.

As with building your website, if you don't follow standards, a lot of your potential viewers will miss out and if you don't care, then do what you like, but if these potential viewers can be considered revenue then why not do your best to satisfy them and not big companies who probably don't care since they've already got their point through.

We need standards, they aren't restrictions, they are guidelines, you can choose whether to follow them or not, but if you want to be respected more, that's what you have to sacrifice.

Cheers, MC

In computer world HTML is quite an odd language if you look it from "standardness" point of view. See, usually things follow standards quite closely, and in some areas following and the existance of the standards is crucial. Take telecommunications for example. If there weren't strict standards for protocols and addressing it would all go to hell.

If you think about it it'd make sense to have strict standard for HTML. Meaning that if the document isn't well formed the browser would return and error and don't view it. But as the companies behind browser development didn't opt to go this way, we have a web full of standard incomplete websites.

As you might expect from the above to paragraphs, I respect W3C and their standards. And when ever I publish something in the web, I first run it through their validators. And you can call be standard-fascist, but my option is that every one should do this and hosting companies like astahost could very well require it from their users.

wierd... w3c doesn't claim that they are standard - according to Tim Berners-Lee's Interview(link broken), they do recomendations and develop specs like xhtml and others.
