I recently bought a D-Link DSL-504T Modem/Router/Switch for my home network. I configured via the web-interface, and works in windows perfectly. I have 2 workstations and a laptop wired, where one workstation and laptop are SuSE Linux/Windows XP bootable (the other just windows XP). The problem is in SuSE. I simply cant get it to work. The connection is fine, as I can log onto the web interface for the router through linux. Even the DHCP allots a IPv4 address for both machines. Could it be that SuSE is not handling the IP address correctly? I performed an ifconfig to get the following: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:A0:D1:B3:F3:4C inet6 addr: fe80::2a0:d1ff:feb3:f34c/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 TX bytes: 0 (0.0 Interrupt:10 Base address:0xa000 And then a tcpdump showed the following: tcpdump: WARNING: eth0: no IPv4 address assigned I am new to this distro and OS, but im just clueless as to where I am going wrong! Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Kind Regards, Pharalia

How To Connect Computers In A Wi-fi Network

but never with wireless. I've tried the wizards Windows XP provides to create ne...

Unable To Connect My Comp. To A Wireless Network

This happened to me many times before and i eventually had to call my uncle over to help me fix it
up. Miraculously, it always works everytime he comes. So the last time he came, i watched carefully
and made sure i remembered everything he did. It was not exactly complicated, and he set up the
network manually for each computer. All he did was set up a wireless network using the wizard and
then set up a home or small office network using another wizard. I did it again with my new desktop
but it didn't work. Even though i set permissions for the firewall to allow it a...

Tracing Broadcast Storms
- A poorly managed or configured layer 2 switch may affect network laten (1)
In some cases, a single layer 2 switching device configured improperly can cause serious
connectivity problems, especially on a large network. Problems of this nature behave similar to
Denial of Service (DoS) attacks but are slightly easier to track. Most intranets serve a central
location where other internal networks are connected. Whether it is a remote off-site location or
only accessible by taking an underground railway, it's usually the best place to start
disconnecting backbones to find out which physical subnet is causing the problem. Broadcast storms
are ge...

How To Keep The Internet Out From A Network ?
- Using Dlink Giga lan switch, DSL ... see picture (9)
So..in the picture below you can see the schematic I made. The internet enters in the first PC thru
the DSL box , and I wanna connect the internet PC with the other PC's with a giga lan speed. For
that I think I will need a second Lan card because the internet PC only has one lan port. Next I use
the Dlink 8 ports Switch. But I don't want the internet go from the internet PC thru the Dlink
and to the other PC's. Because I don't wanna put firewall and stuff on the other PC's.
But maybe with this setup, the internet will just naturally stop at the firs...
Extending A Wireless Network
- Wireless Internet (2)
Usually, to integrate WiFi capabilities into an existing LAN involves interfacing a wireless router
with an existing LAN and configuring it as an access point. If it is meant for free public use, then
it may not be necessary to encrypt the transmission, otherwise it is advisable to encrypt it with at
leas a 64-bit WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) key. Depending on the gain in db of the attached
antenna, the radius of wireless coverage can vary from 250meters to close to 450meters. Now comes
the stage where we need to extend the coverage of the wireless transmission, t...

Problems With Comcast

Has anyone else been having problems with comcast modems as of lately? I've been doing tech
support for roughly two years now, and one of my friends is unable to connect to his wireless d-link
router. I came over and had a look at it, and everything seemed fine for the most part, except the
fact that the connection wasn't working. After about half an hour of trying different methods
of resetting, replugging, ect., i figured the d-link router was bad. So I brought it to my house
and hooked it up with my westell modem, and it worked perfectly fine. Leaving the...

type of NAS set up. We do not have a router and we really just want an ad hoc...

School Network
- What do you think? (14)
Our high school just got the new version of Novell ZenWorks, and it has some awesome features.
I'm a computer tech at the school, so I get to use many of these features. I think one of the
more scary features is the remote control. The admin can control any computer on the network. He can
turn them on, log them in, and even lock the local mouse and keyboard. It's really fun to spy
on people in the library and computer labs, and lock people's workstation controls, although I
have had this happen to me. Many people in my school believe that it is an invasion o...

Router Safety

I have now conducted a few tests on my router and am led to believe if you are in an area someone
elses router and dont have permission, you can hack the router, find out all their website history
and view current connections. If you a WEP key installed on your router, this is the problem. Remove
it and use another security method, WEP is hackable and can allow users through quite easily, i
disallowed my laptop from router, then used certain software to generate the WEP, got on then used
Internet Tracking tools. It's so simple, people can Hack your router! use WP...
