I was surfing the web, checking out some good host, when I bumped into Terrahost. I know there are many hosts that ask for a lot of money for their services, but this one has really shocked me. The plans this host offers are pathetic, whereas the prices are extremelly high. Here's what I mean: QUOTE * 5Mb Web space * 2,000Mb transfer per month * Domain name or sub domain name * FTP Access * 1 mail account @yourdomain.com
$12.95/Month - $30 Setup $155/Year - $30 Setup Source: http://terrahost.com/hosting.htmlThat's the worst package: only 5MB of space and 2GB of bandwidth (who would need that much?). No PHP or any other advance options. The price? Only $155 a year?!?!? If that's not a rip-off, I don't know what is! For the same amount of money you can get hell of a lot better hosting at Computing Host. For $9.99 a month you get 5.4GB space and 99GB bandwidth. Hm, which host would I choose..? Things become even worse when you look at the "best" package. QUOTE * 50Mb Web space * 10,000Mb transfer per month * Domain name or sub domain name * SSI support * PHP3 support * Java servlet support * Telnet access * FTP access * mSQL support * MySQL support * URL spelling corrector * 1 mailing list * 2 password protected directories
$39.95/Month - $60 Setup $480/Year - $60 Setup 50MB? Still not enough. 10GB bandwidth? The only good things here, as far as I am concerned. PHP3??? Oh my, isn't that a bit.. OLD!?! And with all those "advantages" you pay only $480 a year. Sounds like a good offer, doesn't it? Well, it doesn't. My advice is, stay away from this host. I would be suprised if I found out they have any users at all. The offer is awful and the sky is the limit to the prices. Why use this host? I have no idea.

QUOTE #
Note: All plans may include Secure Socket Layer Support for an additional $45/month ($100 setup fee) #
Note: Your account will be charged $50 for every email spamming complaint we receive in relation to your website that we are hosting. This will be used to defray any cost we incur due to handling complaints. Your site will also be taken down following any complaint. make much sense to me.. LOL at the price they ask.. i think i can arrange a two account shared hosting.. =)

You've got to be kidding. I can't believe there is someone who charges so much for webhosting, basic webhosting at that! Maybe these guys are still in the stoneage when webhosting used to cost a bundle .

Some companies have a very specialized clientelle. We for example, I have seen $60 Cdn for one company, in a marketplace where the going rate is $20.

Wow! I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a good VPS account for that price! 5 megs!!! I think that's about what I used to have when I had an MSN group 7 years ago! You can tell that this is just designed to rip off n00bs who want a "cool" site to show their friends and automatically assume they need to pay for hosting! Very, very sad.

Ooh, they are now offering a WHOPPING 15 MB! That's right, folks, they just improved their hosting service by 300% for the same unbelievable price of ... drum rolls ... $155/year + $30 setup. Of course, I'm being sarcastic. I also noticed that the website's bottom menu does not work. I suspect the site was created by an amateur or someone who is trying to break into the hosting business, but who does not have good insight into the current market. I wonder how many customers it has. On the other hand, it would a shame if this was one of those pre-built websites + hosting combos that was sold to some unsuspecting newbie on eBay hoping to start a web business. In any case, there are scam artists everywhere.

I guess the owner must be using a 10Gb Hard Drive to host these sites... and he's hoping to buy a new system soon and provide his costumers tons of storage space and new features. It's one of the few possible explanations for this 'joke'. Ok, it's a stupid one, but still...

QUOTE ust asking, but do you upload the full resolution photos On hosts like Astahost, I usually resize them to 800x600, which is a comfortable size when watched in gallery2. On hosts offering 5 giga space, I use the full size.

QUOTE(yordan @ Aug 25 2006, 04:13 AM) Digital camera is also a reason of needing a lot of space. People want to share their holidays pictures, so they need to put them on their website. My astahost account is hardly enough for what I want to show, I continuously have to remove pictures in order to be able to add the new ones without having disk space quota problems. Personnally, I think digital cameras is really the multimedia part of Internet. You feel yourself creative with your camera, and you want to share your photos and movies with all your family and all your friends.
Just asking, but do you upload the full resolution photos (the 1-3 MB images, unedited) to your account?? If I share photos (and I do), I'll always size down the originals to 770 width. This takes a 2MB photo down to about 300 some kilobytes. So it's also easy on bandwidth. Then if anyone wants the original, I have them email me the photo file name and I grab the original and email it off to them. [N]F

on my case. i need the space for database dump and for the scripts i created.. Web have changed so much that a few years ago.. a few html will make you above the others.. now if your website is not run on scripting engine like ASP, PHP.. JAVA and others.. and dont have the niffy cool look that other enhancements can give.. you will not be "in".. you are not in the mainsteam.. today.. even simple websites need a database backend.. like those blogs that common people run..

Well the main reason people require so much space today on their hard drives and webspace is that they want to do stuff like share mp3s. Also, people have come to expect higher quality graphics. You just didn't see that in 1998, so that kind of bandwidth was perfectly okay (also for my site it would still be because even when it was up on another host it had no hits)

Astahost A Place To Play, Nothing Else
Serious hosting needs, go elsewhere (29) When I discovered Astahost I thought I had found a very unique place for my hosting needs. Not only
was the concept a cool one, but the prices for paid hosting was low. That was when I first

Web1000.com: Web Hosting

fansites are rather international in outreach, I was basically cutting off 75% of my fanbase for
savings. So, all in all, it was a great host (mind you, this was about 2 years ago, so bea....
