I don't think magnets hurt the monitor it will warp it into many pretty colors smile.gif but most moitors have a degauss feature that returns the monitor to an unmagnitized state. WARNING magnets hurt hard drives, floppy drives, vcr tapes and any other magnetic storage devices permanently. Don't get your 50 pound subwoofer around your computer.
But the monitors with speakers mounted on the side are not going to break, the speakers are either so small they don't interfere with the electron tube in the monitor, or the speakers are magneticly shielded.

My Printer, Scanner and Phone is just about inches away from my monitor. Maybe you are talking about a specific monitor? huh.gif You didn't say why it was dangerous... May I know why? b01, how would an LCD be good to your health? laugh.gif

Well it depends the type of device that you have beside monitor... if you have a scanner, printer and they have right norms of security and radiation, they must not have problems, but if you put a device near the monitor and you will see some changes or strange behaviors like change of color, just move away this device.

and yeah why lcd monitor take care about health, all my life I have used crt monitors and still I see..... I think so. laugh.gif ... they are dangerus? dry.gif I never heard that..

If the speakers have shielded magnets, it's fine. You'll be able to tell by the distorted image on your monitor if magnets are near by.

What annoys me is that you can't have any electronic motors anywhere near monitors (like fans, pencil sharpeners, etc) because they will make the picture jiggle. I don't know that it will damage the screen, but it sure is irritating!

The electric motor works with magnetic fields, they have bobines inside, when you apply a currect to this device create an electromagnetic field which is principle to move the motor, and that can hurt the monitor, keep it away from everything related to pc, harddisk, diskettes, etc.

Another improtant factor about taking care of your monitor is monitor gamma correction. If gamma is not configured properly, all the pictures looks darker.

Before correcting my montior' gamma, all of my digital pictures were dark. After correcting gamma, they look just like on the LCD of camera.

In case you are wondering how to do gamma corretion. Just do a quick google for monitor gamma correction.

I didn't have any of this stuff near my old monitor and the picture seems to be REALLY dark. Maybe it's just 'cause it's old.

  1. VGA Monitor Cable Problems - (8)
My cousin's computer seems to have a bad VGA monitor cable. The problem is that when I turn it
on, it seems to be ok, it says auto-configure....then it goes blank (orange light on monitor power
button). I looked at the VGA connector pins and see that pins 4 and 11 are missing. Just to be
curious, I looked at the end connected to the LCD and it's also missing pins 4 and 11. Is this a
coincidence? From what I found, these are what it corresponds to: 4 ID2 Monitor ID Bit 2 11

  2. LCD Monitor: VGA Or DVI ? - (6)
Hi ! I just buyed a new LCD monitor to replace my old CRT monitor. The new monitor have two
conection options: VGA and DVI. Now I have it connected to VGA, because my graphic card do not have
the DVI conection. I don't know if image quality will change between VGA and DVI. If I buy a
new graphics card with DVI output I will see any quality improvement? The graphics card I have now
is a nVidia 5200 so in fact I am not needing more graphics performance and if I buy a new one will

  4. Help Needed: Monitor Out Of Timing - Out of Timing error with certain apps (6)
I've decided to convert to an LCD monitor over the CRT, which I believe to be infinitely better.
Anyway there are certain applications that, when I start up, the monitor goes black and a message
says: Out of Timing H: 43 Hz V 27kHz. Or something like that. Any help? Drivers are up to date, and
I think it's not influenced by resolution. I'd like to get this to work because it was

Hi, I keep getting this VGA Mode Not Supported message on the LCD monitor whenever it tries to go

problem is that I can't boot into Safe Mode to change the refresh rate to a lower setting
