Syllable OS Live-CD For Download

Hi guys,
To those who haven't heard about this Syllable OS: Syllable is a free software hobby operating system for Intel x86 Pentium and compatible processors. Its purpose is to create an easy-to-use desktop operating system for the home and small office user. It was forked from the stagnant AtheOS in July 2002.

Now Syllable has stepped up to Version 0.5.6 and a Live Bootable CD is available for download at: http://www.syllable-livecd.info
It's supposed to be ONLY 31Megs.

but is this an Operating system like Windows? even so i dont think good quality interactive software can fit in 31mb ... anyways hope this improves soon and can stand between windows n linux...! It will sure be a nice change ! presently i wil check this os n let u know about what i feel.!

Well, that all depends on how the software was written. I've seen many examples of great interactive software that fit on a 360K floppy disk. It all depends on how it's written. Remember, just because it's bloatware doesnt mean it's good.

Yeah, Syllable OS is nice project. It sort of reminds me of BeOS, but in some ways is more like a "real" *nix. Anyway, the idea of creating a GUI *nix system without that slow piece of 25 yo bloat known as X-Window is a good one.

Looking at the screenshots on the official website, I must say the GUI has been done simply and without too much. However, the visual styles and mouse icons remind me of the old Mac OS GUI.

I was going to try it on a virtual machine using VMWare, but it seems that Syllable OS has certain problems with the virtual machine configuration. But I believe this OS has a potential to provide home users with a simple and easy-to-learn interface.

Previously in 2005, it was 0.5.6. However in 2007 now, its version 0.6.4. If you like to know more, you can go here to view the documentation.
