QUOTE(Ford_Prefect @ Jan 6 2005, 08:22 PM) Starcraft is the game to which all other RTS games are compared with. Since it's debut in 1998, Starcraft has never declined in popularity since. It is honestly the first and probably only RTS game in which i have sat and played for hours on end. Forget your fancy, awesome graphics games, Starcraft is where all the fun is! I've gotta agree. Though it's been a long time since it came out, Starcraft really hasn't declined too much in popularity or playability. The map editor and triggers within it make this game almost infinitely versatile and variable. Though I have to admit, some of the maps are getting repetitive, the enjoyment I get out of nuking a bunch of carriers when my opponent least expects it hasn't decreased since I started playing.

It's funny, just a couple days ago when my WoW server was down, some of my friends wanted to play it. I couldn't find my cd to install it and almost head out to buy the SC Battlechest ! It's one of the few games where 1 player is able to take on 2 or *maybe 3 other players. I've took on 2 players many times in instances where my partners is dropped or disconnected. Unlike War3, there is no way you can take on 2 players unless they are absolutely new to the game. Only 3 race, but each one is very unique and fun to play. I usually play random, but if I really must choose a favorite... I'm gonna have to go with the Zergz. The reason I stopped playing this game was due to D2. I was amazed to find some very good players dont even use the keyboard shortcuts, shocking .

Yeah, Starcraft is a pretty good game and its online multiplayer is pretty fun to play also. The races are also pretty balanced which makes it fun to play online.

I agree. Starcraft is like the ultimate game of the genre, simply because it is the perfect base for any RTS games. It is that way because it's so simple and base compared to some other RTS games that try to be so different from one another that they ruin the best part of the kind of game. But still, the three races are unique from each other, providing balance between each other and special attributes. I really don't find that in WCIII... Anyway, it was an awesome game. Yeah. There it is.

You guys are right. I have the original and the expansion and just for the heck of it, I thought I'd install them again and when I signed on to battle.net, I was very surprised to see it as active as ever. Really, when you compare SC to WCIII, WIII is mostly just a graphic improvement. Even then, the SC sprites still retain their charm.

I have play this game . It is a great RTS game , I agree with Ford Perfect : Starcraft has never declined in popularity since. I also play Age of Mythology , both Starcraft and Age of Mythology are my favourite . If you don't play Age of Mythology , you try it , you can feel it also a good RTS game .

I played Starcraft for years and loved it, then came Warcraft III and that was even better. Blizzard doesn't seem to dissapoint when it comes to strategy games.

SC, WC, and C&C (only normal c&c, tiberian sun, and red alert though) all those classic RTS's will never be able to be beaten, they will allways be in the top 10 rts games.

Starcraft is a great game and one of my favourite real time strategy games but I believe the game that every RTS is compared to is actually Dune 2, the game that pretty much started the genre

Yup. I have to agree with you. Starcraft is the very first RTS game that I have ever played. My uncle taught it to me with his computer, and after a while I started being greedy. >_< That was around 7 years ago. (I was 7 then) I prefer using Zurgs because its very easy to transport your cavalry and you can infest on terran command centers.  ;;

I still enjoy playing Starcraft, and what I like most about it, apart from the great playability and amazing races to choose from, is the great storyline it has behind it. The campaigns that walk you through the three races make you love each of them. When you first start with the Terran campaign, you begin to hate those "bugs" (Zergs), and those strange Protoss beings. Then when you're playing with the Zergs, you love the collective intelligence, so many and each not important as much as the whole race survival. Later on you play the Protoss and you're amazed at their loyalty and great technologies. I couldn't wait for the expansion and the new campaigns, and couldn't help to love Kerrigan as a hybrid and queen of the Zergs. From them all I like Zergs best, because of that collective race concept, that differs from all the rest of the races, in this game and others. The map editor is great too, and with some other programs you may find, you can get really cool mods for the game. We could make Devourers fire land missiles, Valkyries nuke, or Broodlings fire orange clouds and multiply themselves - invencibles. For me it's still the best RTS game ever.

I have a large group of friends in my school and all we basically do every is play online games with each other. WE play these games: Diablo2 - expansion Starcraft -expansion Counter-Strike:Condition Zero Titan Quest - our newest game, its pretty awesome However whenever we are in an argument over who is better then who, or need to settle any dispute it all goes down on Starcraft. Starcraft is the best all around game there is. So many awesome custom maps and stuff and you still can't be the standard ladder play. Strarcraft = <3

Starcraft was the best RTS I've ever played in my whole life, and man, I've played tons of them. I'd like to point out this Total Conversion mod, Project Revolution. They're bringing Starcraft to the Warcraft 3 engine, as close to the original as possible. It's worth a look http://www.astahost.com/project-revolution-w3-sc-t13161.html

Starcraft is one of the greatest strategy games out there, even today. The unique and powerful engine for each race adds infinitely to the playability, and the different combinations really make the game a nice experience. If you get tired of the plain melee mode, there's a new genre in Use Map Settings games that have so many more types of games, from remakes of the melee to RPGs to new classical games, as well as the traditional Bunker Wars and Golems massing games. To me, the game never seems to get old, although I've had to rebuy it a total of three times before because I lost the disk or the key, but it's well worth the money. The graphics are beautiful for a 2d game, and it seems Blizzard is doing all it can to keep the game lasting, which is a great thing. As a side note, I beleive Blizzard announced that Starcraft II was going to be a 2d game. I could be mistaken, but it's wonderful news, as the beautiful views of Starcraft were a pleasure to my eyes, and Warcraft III's graphics looked blocky and unimaginative in my opinion.
