Check out the SLAX OS. (they have the 6th version)(the 6th version is still in progress) It can be in a cd or usb. It has my favorite program: VisualBoy Advance Plus, a very cool alternative for those suppresed by User Account Controls in Vista One thing, in usb you need a bios that supports usb as a priority... ... which i don't have but have dos to which i use to boot it i am not really sure how to really boot it on a usb card reader, bu i'm still on it!

so you first boot into DOS and then you run slax from the USB-stick ? How do you do this ? Plus, you've forgotten to mention the most important thing about slax, it's full customisable using a windows app. You can add and remove software (these are provided in modules) before you create your own, personal live-cd

So if there's a bootmgr in the CD, it will boot from CD first. eg. window CD or linux CD. If there's no CD, then it will boot from USB then HDD. Btw, you can create your own BootMgr to put it in CD and boot from a few Live CD since those are pretty small in size. But haven't tried that yet. Tell me if anyone tried those. Cheers

i dont trust live cds anymore, i havent used one since last year, i was trying to partition my jump drive and it got confused and destroyed the hard drive... not a nice day, i had to try and fix it before my dad got home (had like 4 hours), ended up taking about 2 months to fix (i ended up getting a new hard drive), well actually didnt fix it, just got a new hard drive cos it was completely stuffed... Linux for ya, i used to like it, now i dont, the only 2 that i like are fedora and suse, for some reason i really like them and would quite happily use them, the rest of them i wont bother with, not reliable. nice thing with windows and mac is that its made by enormous companies that most people know, linux distros are peoples little home made projects, lol. my 2 cents! i think i used slax once before and hated it.

Sten you just made me cry inside Calling linux unreliable and windows reliable... ouch... I love live cds, they are an insanely cool concept. While I don't personally use them in a lot of functional situations they are pretty awesome. I'm loving how a lot of distros are making their install cds live cds now, so you can boot into the distro before installing all off one media. As for Slax I haven't tried it but if it is based off slackware it's gotta be solid. Slackware has always been a nice distro so Slax is probably well put together since its based off that code. I can't imagine it frying any hard drives (unless you do something like format your drive to an unusual file system and don't know how to change it back... *ahem*)

Yah.. Love the concept of live CD. No long installation to test out the OS. Just boot it and there you go. But anyway you are right to say that windows and mac are operated by big companies, however I've used linux and they are very powerful if you know what you want for your OS and app. (they only things is that there's a lot of configuration) A lot of open source application are very powerful too. e.g I would choose Eclipse over Net Bean. Just my 1 cent worth. Cheers

wrong time, wrong person. I've been trying to install Gentoo on my computer for a whole day ... nothing, nada, noppes. Can't realy say that that is reliable ? Slax is pretty reliable, as longs as you don't start adding modules, these sometimes get stuffed up or there are some dependecies missing.

lol sorry jeigh! lmao, but i just think that windows well is reliable and way more reliable then linux. a live cd never cost me so much money before though. cos while i was getting a new hard drive i also got more ram, that cost a bit!

Errors When Installing/booting
From Live CD and actual installation (13) On my new computer, I decided to install Linux as I need it for development purposes. Wanting to
take a shortcut, I tried using Wubi, the Windows-based Ubuntu Installer. Everything went fine as it
installed. I restarted the system to find revalidation errors when booting. It kept on repeating
the same thing over and over so I thought that the Wubi installation was corrupted or otherwise
damaged. I downloaded Ubuntu 8.04 and burnt it onto a CD-R and tried that instead. I couldn't
even boot into the Live CD session because the same error came up. It looked like this: ....

Live Search Webmaster Center
(1) I find that it is very useful in many ways. My site is now included in the listings and if you type

wikipedia article. I followed at link at the bottom of the article to another article, about

freezer. It turned out to be true, when I opened the freezer it was still liquid, whacking it
against the table started turning it to ice at the top, then gradually working it's way down. It
was impressive, I recommend some people here do it for the sheer look of it. The wikipedia articl....

Windows Live Search
