I have what may be a strange question... hopefully the answer/fix isn't as strange. *grin*
I have a home network. Works fine. Main computer hardwired, daugher's computer via Wireless. They work fine together.
I also have been provided a Laptop from work. I'm able to sucessfully use my network wireless card and gain access to the internet at home.
This Laptop from work... is setup with the Network ID, as a "DOMAIN"... to fully access the "Intranet" at work.
As is normal for home usage... my main computer at home, as well as the daughter's computer as setup as a "WORKGROUP".
The main computer, and daughter's computer are able to share folders and files.
Is there a way, that my work's Laptop can also share files... instead of having to copy files to a thumb drive or CD to transfer them between computers? Or, in doing that, am I going to cause my work's Laptop to then not have access to my works "Intranet"???
Any information (good, or bad) would be appreciated.
if you were to setup a separate network allowing you to connect to your home computer and your office's network, it would be possible to do all those without denying access to your work's laptop Intranet.

djatomicice,
I'm sure that I'm following what you are trying to tell me there. My home computers are setup on their own network. Both are connected via a wireless router (main computer hardwired, daughter's computer wireless connection) to my home "Workgroup", as their network.
My problem is... that since my work Laptop is configured to be part of my works "Domain"... I haven't found an easy way to do the file sharing between my home computers.
I'm sure there is a way... I just don't know what it is... and I'm hoping someone here can help me find it.
Thanks again for reading all!
P.S.
The above should read "I'm not sure that I'm following..."
On the logon screen where it shows the domain name in a drop down box click on this and you should see "this computer". Simply logon onto the computer rather than the domain.
Accessing a domain with computers
Sharing "domain" & "workgroup"
iGuest-vinay,
You can access domains only if you have the professional versions of Windows such as 2000, XP or Vista Ultimate.
But if you have one of these operating systems you can do this:
Go to Control Panel and open System.
Click on the"Computer Name" tab.
Click on the button labeled "Change"
Click the box that is next to "domain" and type in the domain's name. (it will ask you for a username and password at this point which you must use a username from the domain)
sharing domain and workgroup computers
Sharing "domain" & "workgroup"
Read your January response which explains how a workgroup computer access files from the domain computer, (great explanation); I need to know how the domain computer can access the files of the workgroup computers.
I don't think the repliers really understand the question. How often have you changed the domain on your work laptop to try and get your home network to work??? You don't do that. Think of the hassle you will have to get back on the network once you get back to work...
Any advice on what an optimum networking solution would be appreciated. We need to upgrade our
server and wanted some expert advice on what our system should like. We are a design manufacturing

In some cases, a single layer 2 switching device configured improperly can cause serious
connectivity problems, especially on a large network. Problems of this nature behave similar to
Denial of Service (DoS) attacks but are slightly easier to track. Most intranets serve a central
location where other internal networks are connected. Whether it is a remote off-site location or
only accessible by taking an underground railway, it's usually the best place to start
disconnecting backbones to find out which physical subnet is causing the problem. Broadcast storms

Usually, to integrate WiFi capabilities into an existing LAN involves interfacing a wireless router
with an existing LAN and configuring it as an access point. If it is meant for free public use, then
it may not be necessary to encrypt the transmission, otherwise it is advisable to encrypt it with at
leas a 64-bit WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) key. Depending on the gain in db of the attached
antenna, the radius of wireless coverage can vary from 250meters to close to 450meters. Now comes
the stage where we need to extend the coverage of the wireless transmission, t....
So my question is this, I have a desktop pc connected to the net through a wired modem. I also have

Hello, I am having some trouble setting up Internet Connection Sharing. Here is my setup. My
internet is through a neighbor who is sharing there internet with me wirelessly, so I don't have
any type of broadband modem, just a wireless card on my desktop PC. I have a linksys WRT54G router
connected to the desktop PC and tried following the guidelines for home networking, and works fine,
but no internet connection now. When I unhook my router then my internet connection comes back.

Hi, I am running a Broadband cable connection on a sb5100 modem on a desktop windows computer and i

I have just installed a dual boot setup with Windows XP Professional SP2 and Ubuntu 7.04 on a DELL
Inspiron 1501. While I did the installation no cable was plugged into the NIC. After plugging a
network cable into the NIC I'm having the problem that Ubuntu recognizes and can work with the
NIC without any problems, but in Windows XP I can't get the LAN connection to show up in Network
Connections. So I have therefore narrowed down the problem as not being on the hardware side. I
tried running the Add Hardware wizard with the installation CD inside and instructed ....
I like to share our broadband modem and access Internet from the second computer. The 2 computers
are not connected to each other. I am considering setting up a network of these 2 computers using a
wireless access point and 2 wireless network cards. I assume the access point and the braodband
modem will be attached to one of the computers and the other computer will be able to access
Internet through the access point. Is there any other way of sharing the modem eg. using adapters/
extensions, like sharing the telephone line? ....
So..in the picture below you can see the schematic I made. The internet enters in the first PC thru
the DSL box , and I wanna connect the internet PC with the other PC's with a giga lan speed. For
that I think I will need a second Lan card because the internet PC only has one lan port. Next I use
the Dlink 8 ports Switch. But I don't want the internet go from the internet PC thru the Dlink
and to the other PC's. Because I don't wanna put firewall and stuff on the other PC's.
But maybe with this setup, the internet will just naturally stop at the firs....
Just built my new computer and holding off on a new wireless PCI adapter for the time being. I have
an old TrendNET USB Wireless Adapter that I plugged into this new computer. The problem I'm

I don't know if that is the right title but here goes. The computer I'm on is connected to
the internet via dial-up and has a printer connected to it. My computer has no internet connection,
but has many graphics programs and things that I would like to transfer the the internet connected
computer. I had the computers networked when I had highspeed internet and a cable modem, but
I'm not sure how to network them now that their both not on the internet. So my question is,
how do I network these two computers? (I know it's probably very simple)....
I have 3 computers that are all connected wirelessly and are able to share files. All have files and
printer sharing enabled also. I have my laptop here that's connected to a USB printer. I shared
the printer and just called it Printer. I tried to connect to this printer from one of the other
computers and added it via Network->Server option. I typed in \\laptopsComputername\Printer and it
automatically changed the shared name to the actual printer name I have on my laptop. I didn't
care since it was still detected/seen. So I printed out a document from that oth....
Hi!!! well, my brother brought to my atention this product: Sonos: http://www.sonos.com/ It
allows to control music in different zone of a home network. But i oposed to it because of it's
price. so i'm trying to search for altenative solutions to this problem: ¿How can i listen to

This happened to me many times before and i eventually had to call my uncle over to help me fix it
up. Miraculously, it always works everytime he comes. So the last time he came, i watched carefully
and made sure i remembered everything he did. It was not exactly complicated, and he set up the
network manually for each computer. All he did was set up a wireless network using the wizard and
then set up a home or small office network using another wizard. I did it again with my new desktop
but it didn't work. Even though i set permissions for the firewall to allow it a....
Bacially I have 2 computers, both connected by a wireless connection. My computer is the "master"
computer, while another one is sharing an internet connection through mine. My computer is
connected to a printer via USB, and I would like the other computer to be able to use the printer
aswell. In the past this guy managed to set it up....but after a few networking problems the
connection to the printer via both computers somehow broke off. I've spent ages on trying to
work out how to make it work. Do I need to install any drivers on the other computer? I have al....
My parents have been persuading me over and over again to do something about our wireless internet
connection. No, its not that the router has any problems connecting the computers to the internet.
My problem is that i want to connect my computers together to enable the sharing of files,
programs, and most importantly, my printer. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to use the already set
up wireless connection to link all the computers together. I've done networking with cables yeah
but never with wireless. I've tried the wizards Windows XP provides to create ne....

My roommate and I have been looking for a way to share a network drive. I recently bought a 250GB
SATA HD for my computer because I desparately needed more space. When I go to college in August, my
rommie and I want to share that space. Is there any enclosure that will support a SATA HD and still
allow two computers to access it simultaneously. I know that this doesn't seem like a network
issue but there is the possibility that we would use an Ethernet enclosure and try to attempt some
type of NAS set up. We do not have a router and we really just want an ad hoc....

I just purchased a D-Link wireless router, a DI-524. On my computer i connect through dial up to the
internet. I have been trying to figure out how to share this connection through the router, but i

I don't know much about networking but I'm trying to learn more by setting up my home
network. I have one desktop computer running Windows ME and one desktop computer running XP Pro,
I'm using a router and a cable modem to get them connected to the Internet. My main goal is to
be able to share files between the computers so I don't have to be copying files from one and
moving it to the other etc.... My first question is am I gonna be able to do this without a
Network Hub? I've tried different things such as assigning static IP addresses to each ....
Hey all, I plan to have a LAN party with my friends next week. There are three of us. I have a hub.

Can i connect all three event though no two have the same OS??....
Our high school just got the new version of Novell ZenWorks, and it has some awesome features.
I'm a computer tech at the school, so I get to use many of these features. I think one of the
more scary features is the remote control. The admin can control any computer on the network. He can
turn them on, log them in, and even lock the local mouse and keyboard. It's really fun to spy
on people in the library and computer labs, and lock people's workstation controls, although I
have had this happen to me. Many people in my school believe that it is an invasion o....
Most Home internet users have dynamic IP address' Meaning they may change every time you reboot
your computer or router. For most internet use, you dont need to worry about your IP, but if like
me you need to ssh into your home network from work or university... OR run quake servers somtimes
to play againsed your friends... then you probably know how annoying dynamic IP's really are.
Maybe you want to run a public webserver from home ? getting a non computer savvy fiend to remember
and type "connect 103.213.7.* " usually probes way more complicated than it sho....
Hi, I've been thinking about getting a dual wan port router for awhile. It is my understanding
that I will beable to plug in 2 cable/dsl connections and beable to use the combined bandwith as
long as I download with multiple connections (i.e. 4 connection newsgroup servers). Is this correct?
What inexpensive 100$ router would you guys recommend for this. Thanks,....
