Shared Network Printer Permissions In Vista

nightfox
Hey,
I'm using vista and I'm trying to connect to my mom's computer because it has the printer on it. There seems to be some odd issue between Vista and XP. Here's a basic scenario:

1) I go to explorer and type in \\MBST005 which is my mom's computer, XP Media Center
2) The shared docs/printers come up and I double click the printer that is shared and what everyone uses.
3) I get "Access Denied"
4) I try to open a shared folder and it works. I can save, open, create and delete files.

Has ANYONE who uses a shared printer able to use vista to connect? Anyways, the next option is buying a "real" network printer (one with an ethernet card) so that way we can all connect using that method since I know it works 100% no problem.

Thanks

You're not the only one. If you're administrator, then it works. Else, it won't.

i have been successfully able to connect my vista pc to a shared printer on XP. thats was connected straight up, no changed settings at all!

as xboxrulz said you have to be an administrator, i was an admin when i successfully connected to the printer so that is most probably true!

  13. [trick] Installing Xp Last And Still Dual Boot
    For Windows Vista (0)
QUOTE This was a tough one, but I managed to prove my theory that XP can be installed last and
still added to the bootloader. It was simple to do with two cmd lines, but damn hard to find and
figure out. My first problem getting Vista off of XP (I didn't want to use VistaBootPro in
solving this puzzle) so I could add XP after the Vista install without any traces of it left from

    quicker way with bootsect.exe. The syntax is: E:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force (....

At school they've decided to force us to use a proxy server (a sucky one because it's more

Recently, I have received an "Exploring Windows" email from Microsoft, which led me to an
interesting link called 100 Reasons You'll be speechless. Thought it was related to Windows
Vista, and it was. Here are some of my opinions: 1. It makes using your PC a breeze, if Windows is
responding most of the time. Also, many users have complained about User Account Control, which say
that it makes using the PC not a breeze. I haven't tried it yet, but from others' point of

I just got a hold of Vista from my friend. He downloaded it from the Microsoft site and burned it on

only been giving me headaches. I've been getting all kinds of errors...most likely related to
the amount of disk space I allocated for the install or the memory assigned. Well, I gave it all I
