You can use Windows Disk Manager tool to check for file system errors and bad sectors on your hard disk.
To check your drives:
1- right click on drive and click Properties
2- click Tools tab and under Error-checking, click Check Now
3- in dialog box select the Automatically fix file system errors or/and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box Automatically fix file system errors

Although, some disk errors are irrepairable. So what you have to do is either backup your files and repartition your harddrive (repartition is pretty much saying whipe out everything that is on the harddrive and reinstall the basic things which can be accomplished by putting your OS cd in, and then selecting partition from the selection screen.) Or you can try to deal with it, if its not a major one. But if you deal with it for too long, it will make the drive fail, and you will have to replace it. So for the best decision you probaly want to reformat/repartition.

My computer went perfect a few days ago, but now it started to go so slow on booting progress and it uses 50-80 CPU useage while I got 3.2 GHz I'm running windows Xp home and this problem started whenever I downloaded a new hardware and I tried to get on to a game and I got BSOD...Typically I go onto BIOS settings and edits soem things, and now it wont even boot my comp?? I download 2 video drivers, is that the problem? -Christopher

How To Repair Disk Errors And Bad Sectors
If you "see" (use) bad sectors. . . Now there's the real problem and there's the point too. . .
A bad sector is normal for 100% of hard drives; however, having the bad sector in use (visable/discoverable) is not normal at all.
The SMART system is supposed to remove the bad sector from the catalog so that it can't be seen or used.
If that doesn't work, then the disk manufacturer's utilities may have a repair option to remove the bad sector, and if the option is missing, then a fill zeros operation and then a FULL format, may allow SMART to kick in and remove the sector.
If that doesn't work, then GRC SpinRite probably will work.
Tolerances:
Removing a sector shrinks storage space by a slight amount. After repair (removing bad sector from usage catalog), a hard drive should be retired when it has further decreased by bad sectors or if the problem increases. The point isn't bad sectors. All brand new hard drives have lots of bad sectors. There should be no bad sectors in the catalog--if not in catalog its impossible to "see" or use a bad sector, and thus the bad sector is irrelevant. The point is whether or not there is data stored on the bad sector.

UBCD has few Disk repair utilities. You can check UBCD here. Also if you want to check for disk related errors and corrupted windows files then you've to open command prompt and type "sfc /scan". This will ask for XP cd but checks most of the windows file corruption & chkdsk errors. Other than that you should download your hard drive makers official site for some disk checking and repaid utility. Some hard drive makers do offer disk check utility. These utilities scan your computer online or offline. Someone is having so much problems with this machine and I think it's the Operating System

Windows Not Recognizing Ipod
(33) OK, I'm running Windows XP and my iPod is not detected when I plug it in. The only things that
I could guess are wrong are that I recently had a trojan, known as BackDoor-AWI and that my router
