I am not going to try to hack someone elses BIOS.. But my friend bought a laptop some months ago.. And now he wants to reinstall Windows. But the cd-reader is not working. And the shop he bought it from, have passworded the BIOS thing. And I think the problem is from the BIOS. So is there any way to get through that password?
Thanks for any help //Feelay |

You got to disassemble the laptop, go to the motherboard and take out the CMOS battery to reset the system. That's the only way to take out the password ... and that also resets your system back to manufacturer's default settings.

Some motherboards have default passwords, but I've only seen them for desktops, not laptops so I'm not sure if it would work. But xboxrulz method should work perfectly, its worked for me before. Just make sure you know how to put the laptop back together!

There is an alternative way of cracking the BIOS password on laptops, in a DELL though which I knew. There is a default password in it, I don't know if it's all the same in every model of Dell Laptops. It is an alpha-numeric password, I tried 'r08bv416' - it worked, though there is no guarantee if you try this password on other Dell Laptops.

Well actually some laptops do have default passwords, but it depends heavily on the laptop's brand and model. I've seen work it in some of Toshiba, IBM and Dell computers. Anyway you could google for some of them, there are programs that do the job fairly well (my dad could tell, hehe). Also, unfortunatly (or fortunately, in some cases) some new notebooks do have special protections so you can't just erase the CMOS memory by just removing the batteries. I'm not well aware of the exact working, but they came up with it because most of the corporative users are each day more afraid of having their personal and professional data in the hands of thiefs, spies and alike. And I guess their employers are pretty concerned as well... It would really help if you do inform us of the exact laptop brand and model, and the BIOS brand and version, so we could help you further.

Have you also tried to enter no password at all ? It works on our schoolcomputers (it asks for a password when you want to enter the setup, but just pressing enter is enough ). Now, there are other ways to remove a BIOS password, one of them is a software trick, but the method and commands are different for brands and versions, google around for a bit and maybe you'll find the right tools for your BIOS . An of course, you could also call the helpdesk of the shop or manufacturer of your laptop .

You need to take the CMOS battery out for 10 minutes or so, it will reset the bios and the password. Try the blank password trick before you start open the computer Best Reagards Gustav

Taking out the CMOS battery is a good idea but depending on the type and model of laptop it might be super hard or unremoveable. I would suggest searching for if it is infact removeable first or call the manufacturing company. An alternative would be to take to a computer store and see if you can get some advise If that leads you no were see if its still under warranty and try to get it exchanged or fixed by either the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) or the store you bought it from. Some CMOS chips also have a master reset code that can be aquired from the OEM. Hope this helps and if not sorry.

hey don't know if you tried this yet but some laptops come with default bios password, like 12345 or something, just look for the manual.

I did this 30 years ago. At this moment, this was the only way updating the bios, physically changing the chip. Does somebody else remember these times ?

May be the battery removing method didn't work for the poster as he mentions before. Well CMOS, removing it physically and replacing it? I have no idea if that can be done.

instead of physically removing the cmos, isn'it easier and saver to just remove the battery saving the settings in the cmos ?
