QUOTE(victorhu @ Feb 28 2006, 03:07 AM) I upload all phpbb2 files to my webspace with dreamweaver.
I would suggest you use CuteFTP or BulletProof FTP or just search for "FTP" on asta and u'll get results of some free FTP software that were discussed before. While uploading files to a webserver, i would normally suggest anyone to use a FTP Software. Just configure your FTP and you are good to go ! Upload and then go to install.php via your folder path .. Regards Dhanesh.

You need to upload the files with their directory structure intact, the gibberish you are seeing is the function guess_language() and what you showed part of were the language being assigned to an array. Get a good FTP client that will keep the directory structure intact, most all of the new one should do that for you. Then try the install again, if I remember correctly it will even create a database for you.

Of course, on astathost, you need to do nothing in order to have phpbb2, fantastico does the whole job for you. On a server other than astahost, just do an ftp, this suggestion is right. I would just like to inform that I sometimes had to chmod somes directories : for instance on astahost you are not the "root" user, so you need to give yourself execution rights on the installation programs. Most of modern ftp clients allows you changing the permissions on your downloaded files, simplly try (read-write-execute to everibody), get everything working, and then selectively change the permissions for security reasons and then check that phpbb still works.

If your server is Astahost you shouldn't open the page while in your cPanel. You should open a new window and type in the following URL: http://www.yoursite.com/..../install/install.php (This link leads nowhere) If your not at AstaHost, then probably you should do the same thing and check whether your PHP version is at least 3+. Otherwise, check whether your server has PHP or not. I suggest that if you have been doing this and your PHP is up-to-date, then try uploading all the files with FTP. Using Mods With phpBB2
How to do correctly. (0) phpBB2 has hundreds of MODs. You can find many of them at phpBB Hacks here . Some of them are
good and some of them really are lousy, and basically you really do not know until you download and
install them on your site. This topic is how to instal test and use or get rid of MODS that you
download. I 'port' MODs from the phpBB2 standalone BBS to the 'ported' version of
PHP-Nuke . These MODs are the same in action but have to be modified further to work with the
PHP-Nuke database and file structure. There are a couple of important points to be taken ....
phpBB 2.0.19 Full Install DB Problems
(1) Another phpBB question, I’m still really new to such things. I had an older version of phpBB on my
site and never got around to fully implementing it. A newer version came out (2.0.19) so I decided
to just delete the old version and install the latest version from scratch. I would have liked to
used Fantastico from the Astahost control panel but the only version offered is 2.0.18 which I hear
has some security flaws. I went to phpbb.com and downloaded the latest full package. I followed
the instructions and got in installed to the point where you have to setup the d....
phpBB2 & Discuz - Which Is The Better One?
(5) I am planning to set up a site with forum service. Read some info about phpbb2 and discuz!4, seem

vbulletin is faster and more reliable) So I need some opinion about which one s better? about pros

MxBB Portal: A phpBB2 Based Portal
(3) Ha anyone tryed the mxBB Portal that integrates with phpBB2? It allows you to have a Portal kind of
like PHP-Nuke or Mambo or XOOPS. What you do is set up one database that mxBB and phpBB2 share, then
you install first your phpBB2 forum, after that you install the mxBB Portal. The neat thing about
it is that you can use all the mods for phpBB just like you would in the standalone verion. This is
because except for the integration of the mxBB and the phpBB the forum is still standalone. I
have set the system up on one of my servers and am still learning how to use it....
