New Battery: Sheet Of Paper

darkool
Japanese Corporation NEC , has announced the development of a new kind of battery , rechargeble ultra-fine,flexible and only needs 30 seconds of charging.
It has only 300 micras thickness and it can be used inside Credit Cards and other kind applications.

The new battery, that is of type ORB ("Radical Organic Battery"), is based on polymers of organic radicals, with the made shipment being by means of a reaction of oxidation-reduction (redox) in the region of the radical.

The cathode is constructed of organic radical polymers, a type of plastic that has a steady radical in its molecular structure. Although it is typically unstable, the radical, in this in case that, he becomes steady thanks to an unknown conformation of its molecular structure.

The organic radical polymer assumes a called state "glue for the electrolyte" - an intermediate state between the solid and the liquid, in which the polymer if it expands after re-covered for a solvent. It is this state that explains the so flexible conformation of the new battery.

Sound great ! I'm very interested in this. How much does it cost? Where can I find more information about that kind of battery. What's its offical website.

This sounds interesting.
I wonder how many volts it can hold though.
It cant be too much with that kind of size.
Did he say it was organic?

Could you post a link to a page with more information on this new 'tech? The applications for this type of battery are nearly unlimited and the implications of such a new tech are interesting, if not frightening. I must admit that I am intrigued.

sounds like it could have a lot of practical application for small devices, think iPods etc.

For laptops, I can't wait for the Fuel Cells to come out...a little watter, a small bottle of Butane, and 20 hours of computer life...

I doubt those things would catch on for laptops. who wants to hook up with water and gas to get power. better to use one of those $100 laptops that you can crank. or the new processors they're experimenting with that use a tenth of the power and give ten times as much processing power for the same low drain. Still too new but i think sooner or later that'll come around. and if someone could come up with a low-drain LCD screen, they would be RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My goodness - there are tons of weird and cool stuff people are inventing out there! However, do they ever become a big business? Nah - most don't. Some do, however.

For example, really small and new technologies are not going to replace Duracell or Panasonic, are they? It may take a few decades but... hmm... it could be a challenge tongue.gif

its amazing how many things are being upgraded, so many people think that when something new is made its brand new technology but its really not this is intresting and i wont wait to learn more tongue.gif

I am willing to bet that the company that is developing this battery is going to use it with some of the new flexible OLED screens and some off the new flexible circuitry. Here is something that nokia has been working on:http://www.phonemag.com/index.php/weblog/read_more/10032005_nokia_888_concept_mind_blowing/
which might incorporate this new battery. hope you like it.

The battery is still in research and development so you can not buy one so at best it will be tomorrows news, they are looking at using it for RFID technology. If you want more information on it the link is right HERE for more just read and view the photos on the battery, and there is a link to the Home Page of NEC at that link.

Yesterday's technology rules.

1. It's less expensive than the brand-new stuff.
2. I don't *need* brand-new technology in anything that I want or need. Not even portable MP3 players. And not even computers. It needs to be fairly new, sure - nobody wants a two-megabyte iPod, if they ever made 'em that small - but I don't need four gigs' worth of music.
3. It's been tested more than the brand-new stuff. I would *still* be kicking myself in the rear end had I actually had the money to invest in a minidisk player several years ago. Industry reports and idolizing fans of the technology swore that the minidisk would eventually replace CDs, but ... yeah, right.
