Hi all,

Friends, it's my first time posting here and hope you will help me.
Friends, my task is next: I have LAN with Windows 2003 server. Every user when they startup their computers on the desktop must appear IE shortcut where will special URL address which exactly URL ADDRESS i want to write...

Did you means that you need to set a default IE home page that point to a url addresss
you specified ?

If so, you should be able to use GPO to do that !
I don't have windows 2000 / 2003 server here.
You have to use Active Directory Users and Computers to do that with GPO editor.

So, I open local GPO editor as an example.
Please do a simalir action on windows 2003 server or by useing client administation tools for windows 2003 server.
(Post reply if you don't know how to open GPO editor on server.)

Start -> gpedit.msc -> User Configuration -> Windows Settings -> URLs -> Important URLs

My problem is this. I had a photo loader software installed on my computer. This prog indexed a
couple of hondred photos I had. Yesterday I uninstalled the prog form my computer without
considering the posibility that the folder containing my photos would be deleted too, which it did.
My question is this, what if I used system restore? would it restore my photos too? Or would it
simply restore just the prog files only? ThnX in advance....

five hard disks, a 500w power supply, and a dvd burner. If I want a UPS that can power the computer
for at least 20 minutes, how powerful does the UPS need to be? I need to know what I would need,
both for the computer+monitor, and then just for the computer.....

Need Advice On PSU

I'm currently using a Generic 400/450watt P4 PSU. When I upgrade some hardware components soon,
I'm thinking of getting a better quality one to make sure everything is fine (and I probably
should have gotten one ages ago), but I don't have a whole lot to spend on it. Basically what
I'm looking to find out is what the equivalent is for a better quality PSU, as iv'e heard
say a 350watt antec would beat the pants off a generic 450watter or some such. I am looking at:

I have an older motherboard, and before I upgrade to a new pc, I would like to replace my old video
card. I want something that will be able to handle (to some extent) some of the newer video games -
Doom 3, etc. I am impartial to the brand, but I would like to stay with ATI or NVIDIA. I had a

My website is nowhere near complete, but I am already having second thoughts about it. The main
idea of it is a text-based T.V. Station Management Game. I recently read a post here at Astahost
where someone wanted to make a text-based game, and they got some negative feedback about it.
Although I think it was one of those RPG kinda text-based games, the fact that there are so many

I'm going to buy a new graphics card for my ASUS A7N8X-VM 400 Motherboard. It has an integrated
nVidia GeForce 4mx GPU, but I've decided it's time to upgrade cause I'm learning Maya
these days (also, all the new games need pixel shader support). What I'm worried about is which
graphics card is supported on my Motherboard. My motherboard supports 8x graphics 1.5V. Here are

Can Someone Give Me Some Advice About CMS ?

I've got a basic understanding of what CMS is. To be able to easily add, and edit things over
the whole website. But I have a few questions about it. First, does it alter things on all
pages, or can it also be used for single pages? And I know it has a wide variety of uses but, I am
working on a text based game right now. It will have drop-down menu's, a forum,
registration/login page, images, text boxes. I'm in the basic stages right now. Would a CMS be
something that would work for something like that? I know I don't have the space on my site ....

Hello all, I need to upgrade a computer to increase its performance for image processing with adobe
photoshop cs. The problem I have is because digital pro-images are quite large (12megapixel) the
computer totally slow down when opening, aplying a modification,etc.. anything you do will take a
long time. The actual computer is a AMD athlon 64 +3400 with 1Gb of RAM. Graphics card is nVidia
5200. Hardisk is SATA 7000rpm (seagate) What do you improve to achieve more performance for this
kind of work? As this computer is not for gaming, I don't know if a better g....

I got my Astahost account in hopes of making a multi-player, online, text-based game in real time.
What I need help with is the programming side of things, a little advice really. I talk to the
maker of a similar type game that I play, and he suggested I learn PHP with MySQL and ASP, and I
cant really remember if he said anything else. I have been playing around a little with PHP and

Hi all ! I need to put online a little shop and I am really a newbie in this. I have found a
software called osCommerce, it is php based and is free also! What do you think about this software?

backed up all i want onto, but i am still terrified i've forgotton something important. i just

I need to create a database of around 1000 music albums that I can put on my site, with the ability
to search the database according to several different criteria. Being a complete and total NOOB to

I would like to switch from Windows to Linux. My problem is I don't know which version of Linux
is best for a newbie to Linux. I have played around with SuSE standard server 8 but it was hard and
complicated. I think that has gotten me scared to use Linux. But would any of you suggest using
those Linux/Windows hybrids like Xandros which is Linux, but it can run Windows applications and
such (personally, I need this as AOL is Windows only). Before you say anything, I know AOL sucks. It
is all I have currently. So would Xandros work for me?....

My goal is simple.. to get a GOOD new pc. I think it's important to also mention what the pc

I have a PC-based recording studio with a very specific problem. I am getting a sort of scratching
noise through the speakers when I move the mouse, load software or scroll web pages. It seems like
it is coming from the motherboard, but I can't tell for sure. I changed hard drives and sound
cards and it still exists. I'm using the on-board video controller, so I haven't yet
eliminated it as a suspect. Other people have described having the same problem and it was most

I'm interested in setting up my own blog site and have toyed with a couple of offerings but I
figure someone out there might have some sage advice on what best meets my (humble) needs..
Initially I'd like to test the software on my own system which is Win32 running Apache2, PHP
4.3.8 and MySQL. I'd ideally like to have my musings etc stored on a dbase and some measure of
control over security and look-n-feel stuff. Something that makes use of CSS but not necessarily
all singing all dancing..just a calendar, a place to write entries, maybe a sidebar with som....
