| | Hi, just ran into a problem today when I was working with a computer with internet problems. This computer is using Windows XP Pro with SP2 installed.
I solved the problem already (was a bad LAN port in the wall) but one thing has puzzled me and I want to know the reason behind it. For some reason I can't uninstall the TCP/IP protocol in 'Local Area Connection' Properties...The Uninstall button is grayed out. I wanted to uninstall it and install it back originally to make sure it's not a problem there.
I have checked to make sure this user has ALL admin priveleges. I even logged in as the Administrator in Safe Mode with Networking to be sure. I checked the permissions in Local Users and Groups and it all looks ok there. It's a member of Administrators.
So what is the reason behind this? How can I uninstall TCP/IP if I encounter this problem again?
Thanks. |

Yes, you cannot uninstall Internet Protocal in Windows XP. The Uninstall button is disabled when you select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) for a network interface. The TCP/IP is a core component of the Windows XP. It is not possible to uninstall TCP/IP in Windows XP. However, there is a reset command(in NetShell utility) is available for reset IP . This command rewrites the releavence registry keys and has the same result as removal and the reinstallation of the protocol. for more details, please visit this page http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;299357

Need Help With Winxp (will Be Upgrading Hardware Soon).
(7) I found out the hard way twice before that Windows XP will have a fit if you change too many
critical components due to it's crappy piracy protection methods. The hardware I am upgrading is

having to wipe the drive clean of everything and start new, re-configure, re-download, re-install,
repeat etc.... EDIT: Oh and incase it is important I am using Windows XP Home with Se....

files, restore desktop icons, fix shutdown and etc.) *And alot more! Download it now a....
What Is Your Latest Winxp Problem ?
(11) What was the latest problem you have with winXP ? Mine: I wanted to play NFSU2, but the program
didn't continue loading, so I wanted to kill it, ctrl-alt-del, killed speed2.exe and I tought
the problem was over. NOT, my pc hardly responded to anything, so after waiting a minute for
taskmanager to start, I saw that another instance of taskmanager (wich I didn't start and it
wasn't the previous one) used 100% cpu. I killed it and things went better again. Had this
problem a few times, damned winxp isn't 2 weeks old or so and it starts bugging me already ....
