| | m trying to find a better media player than WMP, mainly for audio/music. Im trying to find one that plays mp3's and mp4's, and if possible ogg and flac, but its not nessessary. ive tried VLC, but it kept freezing on me everytime i made a playlist, possibly because i have too many songs(1400+). winamp and itunes seem to be too bloated IMO, and WMP itself just lacks in playable formats/features. Any recommendations? thanks in advance.

SHEESH! 1400+ mp3 files?!?!?!? You don't need to worry about bloated programs, you need to worry about all the song files you'll be dealing with! My C drive is almost gone because I have around 750 mp3s. It's like a 10Gb drive!!!

How 'heavy' is this SongBird (I mean CPU and RAM usage during music playback)? 1800+ MP3s here =p I'm using an old 17Gb Barracuda just for them =p If I only could get a DVD burner...

Use winamp. It's just so much better and easier to use plus it has so many useful features and because it is from the company of shoutcast it has an inbuilt shoutcast broswer as well as tv browsers too. You really need to try it out to see just how good it is -HellFire

I'm sure there are better but I've always used winamp without any problems. Various file types (audio/video) as well as smooth light interface (if you don't choose a retarded skin). VLC is awesome for video but I've never tried it with audio. But yea if your only problem with winamp is bloat just use it with the classic skin or another lightweight skin and it should be fine, turn off the extra portions and just leave the main player and playlist sections open and you have a tiny little responsive player at your disposal. Oh and 1800 mp3's? Pfft, lightweights

I think the media player classic is a good media player. Its compact, it can play near anough any video, picture and music file and it comes with a full codac pack that can be used with other programs.
It is free software if you wish to download please go to this website http://www.Free-codecs.Com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.Htm

For me the best media player is Mplayer for linux. It can play all format like VCD, DVD, Ogg, Mp3, MP4 and others. Also you can use Windows *.dll file if Mplayer isnt support the format yet, like WMA!. It has nice GUI and easy to customize. And for audio only, I use zinf audio player (http://www.zinf.org). It's better alternative to XMMS. I've used long time with my ubuntu machine. For windows, XMPLAY it's the best audio player I ever used!!. It only take 1,7 MB of RAM (Winamp 8,1 MB of RAM) and no instalation required. Just unzip then PLAY!. It skinable and have alot of feature. For me, the sound output of XMPLAY very clean comparing to Winamp!. And the most important, it's FREE!!. you can download xmplay at http://www.un4seen.com/

I think no one has pointed out MusikCube yet! It's really a great audio library manager. For people who need correct tags for their music like me (and I have 6 songs short of a thousand ) it's a really great library. For tagging I used Picard from MusicBrainz. It's really great, and it gives you the absolutely most correct tags for songs, which is something that I'm obsessive about. I'm actually using iTunes now instead of MusikCube, even though it is a great piece of software! Much more responsive than the bloated iTunes... and I really can't remember what made me go back to iTunes from MusikCube! Oh well, I must've had a reason.

Holy sweet **** I'd love to get my hands on something like traktor... unfortunately I'm broke as can be with tuitions and rent and whatnot Really it's not that insanely expensive right now (seems they have a 60% price reduction for the anniversary or something) but still.. I couldn't spend 100+ bucks on something that plays music heh. I'd rather spend it on an actual decent speaker set since mine is dieing...but I digress. Traktor does look pretty intense though. Worth checking out for serious audiophiles

Review: Amarok

Amarok is the best player for Linux, and now with the new release (1.3.6) they've added even

included). The best feature (IMO) is downloading the lyrics of the song that is currently playing
(using the artist and album name) from lyrc.com.ar . In addition to that, it also downloads a
thumbnail of the album cover of the song currently playing from Amazon.com and it gets sto....
