| | How to increase Windows shutdown speed when you enabled “clear Page File at shutdown”? Note that making incorrectly changes to the registry may damage your system; please back up any valued data on your computer.
1) Go to Start menu > Run > and type regedit and click OK. 2) Find following address: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \Session Manager \ Memory Management 3) In right side right click on “ClearPageFileAtShutdown”, select Modify and make value of “1”, and Exit from Registry Editor and restart your Computer.

Do you normally need to speed down the shutdown? I dont see the big point. My computer shuts down in 10-15seconds so I probably dont see any problems anyway. But would you mind telling us what your actually doing here, its not enough just to tell us how, it would be nice to know what I am messing around with... Tralalalal - Nqon

You can also use Bootvis, that is a program by Microsoft who makes your whole pc, also your shutdown, faster. It's a great program! Google "Bootvis" a you can download it in a minute.

I posted this before about bootvis: QUOTE Please note that Bootvis.exe is not a tool that will improve boot/resume performance for end users. Contrary to some published reports, Bootvis.exe cannot reduce or alter a system's boot or resume performance. The boot optimization routines invoked by Bootvis.exe are built into Windows XP. These routines run automatically at pre-determined times as part of the normal operation of the operating system. from http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/syspe...ot/bootvis.mspx

For Lightning fast shutdowns and bootups.. (i mean to boot in around 5 seconds) use ACPI S3. not all bios' support it, but for those that do, its great. its not a true shutdown. it halts all running programs, shifts the CPU registers to RAM, and powers down everything, all fans off, the front side bus stops (0hz) and the ram is put into an extremely low power state. booting is almost instant, just takes as long as it does my disk to spin up, and monitor to power on.

quijibow, are you talking about hibernating your computer? I know that hibernating does the same thing, but I've never heard it called ACPI S3. I really wish i could hibernate my computer, but there is something wrong with my motherboard, and it will not give power to the graphics card after resuming the computer.

hi, i think anyone who want to implemented this, should have a look at local gpo policy, there have a option that let you clear pagefile when shutdown computer. that will make this safey. however, doing this will make you pagefile in an non-consistent stated. and may be affect the running performance. be have administrative right, then, go start ==> run ==> type mmc, a new mmc console will open, go file ==> add snap-ins == > search a snap-ins call group policy ==> choose local computer. in the console, search for an item called clear pagefile when shutdown.

My Start bar seems to disapear....
How To Increase Windows Shutdown Speed
Sometimes when I'm on IE, my start bar disapears then comes back a minute later. Sometimes I get this message "Buffer overrun detected" and my background, desktop icons, some programs I was running and my start bar disapear. Can someone please tell me why this is happening and how can I fix it (if there's even a way)? Thanks! -reply by Usagi Tsukino

I always woundered why microsoft has all the warnings about "Never edit or register". I guess you could do all this work just to have your computer shut down faster. What I do is: 1. Close all open windows 2. Close all the tasks (in bottom right hand corner not in the task manager) 3. Press turn off computer. If this takes to long odds are your hardrive is fragmented. This is easy to solve but can take most of a day to finish (luckly for you, you only need to set it up then wait). To do this simply start you computer up in safe mode. Do this by restarting you computer and pressing F8 (or the hotkey listed). Then go to local disk and safe mode (if it doesn't work try again). Now open up control panel (start-->control panel) and go to administrator settings (or tools). Click computer managment and disk defragment. Now you wait (can take up to 12 hours). It will annaliys your hardrive, the red is bad, the green is unmovable and the blue is good. Once your finished you computer will all go faster and have less errors. I hope this helps, Sparkx

Why I May Be Installing Windows Xp Sp3 Again
(8) This is a sad tale of a man and his machine that would not start again. The story continues with a
sorted affair between two operating systems and a battle to win the love of this man’s heart. My
problems began last weekend when I started my computer after it had been off from the previous
night. Everything went normally throughout the POST but once Windows XP started I heard the dreaded
clicking from the hard drive. After several reboots and a Spinrite diagnostic I gave up and called
the time of death around three in the afternoon. This is not all bad because I had....

Will Using Fdisk Corrupt Windows Partition?
(9) I remember doing this before in the past with a DOS partition. It wasn't working properly, so
the office tech told me to use fdisk and delete that DOS partition. Then recreate it. To my surprise
Windows still worked after that. I always thought that fdisk would corrupt the Windows partition
somehow since it was a destructive partitioning tool. So I have always used Partition Magic instead
for my partitioning needs. If I install Linux on a separate partition and decide to get rid of it
later using fdisk, Windows will still be intact right? From my understanding now,....

Can You Create A Folder Name "con"
Is it possible to create a folder named "CON" in Windows? (18) I tried in both Windows XP Home and Professional. If you try to make a folder named "CON" Windows XP

The Best Version Of Windows
