| | i have finally got a linux installation on my main computer. it's kubuntu becasue it's easy and i started late in the day and did want to stay up all night on gentoo!
anyhow i now have a pretty nice os. and it runs so fast. [1.5gig ram makes a big difference]. i have a dual monitor set up in windows and i want to try and get it for linux. i have a nvida card in becasue they have better linux drivers apparently.
where do i start in trying to get this to run? i know enough about linux to just about find my way around and do simple stuff but ive not got much experience so i may be a little slow. thanks in advance. |

QUOTE where do i start in trying to get this to run? Start at the nVidia site. Last time I had this type of problem, I searched the nVidia site, and found a page about the drivers for linux, the way to install them and the way to make them work. You will probably have to do complicated things in the X-Windows environments, or download Linux tools from the nVidia site in order to make the whole thing work. Last time I spent more than one week but at the end the thing worked (er... to be honest it did not really work because I had very old monitors with very poor graphic capabalities, but this is another story). @organicbmx: The page you mentionned is enough, it gives the things to put in the X-Windows description precisely for this nVidia device. It should be enough if you are familiar with configuring X-windows in Lunux. if not, exactly as stated in the concerned page, you should use "XF86Config(5x) or xorg.conf(5x) manpages."

would anyone [you yordan?] know enough and want to spend their time answering stupid questions from me so that i could get this sorted? im not too urgent at the moment becasue linux is my only distro for a few days and i dont really want to break it. i read what i could from that link and from a xorg.conf readme and didnt get very far. what i tried to do was to replace the parts of the xorg.conf file with what was on the nvidia page and change a few parameters. i then saved and rebooted and all i got was a bash prompt. whatever i did was useless so i restored my back up. i can post what i had and what i changed it to if anyone can read X configuration files.

Which Linux Flavour?
Linux - Windows XP dual boot (20) I recently had upgraded my PC to a P4, but had restrained from going for a newer hard disk. I some
how stuck to my old Segate 40 GB hard disk. I am about to get a new hard disk, most probably a 80
GB. (Finally, I was able to pool some funds for the purpose). Now, why am I putting it here on the
OS section? Well, the hard disk space is just the premise. Over that, for past couple of weeks, I
have been using this OS called Knoppix that runs off the CD. I was quite impressed. Most of my
work can be done on the Knoppix or similar Linux flavored OSes. I can work on al....
Help: How To Dual Boot Ubuntu And Windows ME
I am running into some troubles (5) I recently recieved a Ubuntu distro (Breezy Badger, 5.10) and installed it on my laptop,
uninstalling Windows in the process as I could not resize the FAT32 partition without erasing all
data and I loved it! After several days without the internet as I couldn't get the modem
working I decided to reinstall Windows ME on my laptop. I resized the Linux partition and created a
FAT32, enough for Windows and any programs, games and documents I would like, ample space really.
The partition was created successfully and the Linux partition resized. However, I inserted the Wi....
Red Hat 9 Dual Ethernet Problems?
(2) Hello, A while ago before I installed Fedora Core 5, I tried installing Red Hat Linux 9 on the
following system: -Intel Pentium III 900 MHz CPU -512 RAM -Dual Ethernet (10/100) However, during
installation, the Ethernet cards were never found so I couldn't get online. Now, I'm
installing Red Hat 9 on this (much) older computer, Pentium II and I don't remember the CPU
speed, 128 RAM (I think) and this time during install, Red Hat found the Ethernet. This system has
an 3Com card that was taken out of my other system. I was just wondering if Red Hat had any ....

Suse And Dual Monitors
it isn't working (1) I'm wondering if anyone can help me with my problem. I have Suse 9.2 on my computer and I
recently added a second monitor. For some reason I can't get it set up correctly. My video
card is a Radeon 9800. I think that might be some of my problem since Ati doesn't seem to have
good driver support for linux. Anyway, I have Ati's drivers installed, not the ones that came
with Suse. I ran the configuration utility that came with the drivers, and as far as I can tell I
entered all the right settings. However, the X server refuses to start when I have bot....
