| | Everybody is interesting in the big new world of grid computing should post under this topic. First Question: What is Grid Computing?
Grid is a type of parallel and distributed system that enables the sharing, selection, and aggregation of geographically distributed "autonomous" resources dynamically at runtime depending on their availability, capability, performance, cost, and users' quality-of-service requirements.
But what are typically grid computing environments? Do anybody have experience with GD in real use? |

I was working on a site the other day and noticed something interesting. The tech support guy on the
other end seems to have remotely logged into the computer I was working on, but without my noticing
(or not very easily). I had my printers window open already but noticed that some of them were
"auto-deleting" and renaming themselves. I know remote desktop (like VNC) can do this but at least
it will show the other user what's happening. This one seems to be working in the background
without any user knowledge. I would think that if I didn't have that printer fold...
Netgear Questions
- What is this 'site survey' tab? (7)
NetGear has been installed on my computer for quite a while....and I use it for Wireless Internet.
Recently I tried reading some articles about how to secure my wireless Internet through WEP/WPA
encryption or blocking of Mac addresses. The encryption methods are messed and I don't know
which Mac addresses to block. I was wondering if there was a way to see who is using my wireless
connection to get on the Internet. I have no idea which tab in the NetGear information pop-up tells
this, but I was guessing that the 'site survey' tab did the job. Except then if...

What Im looking to do: Hook up 2 computers (one upstairs and one down) and my xbox live. 1) Is
wireed networking significantly faster than normal networking? 2) Can't you get special adapters
and have your network only give info through those (to prevent network hacking)? 3) With wireless
networking would you have to buy adapters for each computer - I think some wireless routers require
it. 4) If I would need those how would that work with xbox live? 5) Any other info on these sorts of
products or if there is any you want to suggest? I use adelphia.net isp & when i...

I tried to look for solutions on how to set this up properly but can't find any more information
than what I have known or tried already. Currently, I have one laptop (Windows XP Home) and a
desktop (Windows 98SE) setup to use the internet. They both have wireless cards/adapters and can go
online through the router without any problems. The problem is how do I share files between them?
For Windows 98, I have enabled File Sharing and chose a folder for sharing. Does it matter if
it's a Family Logon or do I have to set it to Microsoft...something Network logon...
Questions About Brodband-based Phone Service

I am planning on getting cable internet within the next month, and I noticed my last phone bill,
$60!!! I always see the Vonage commercials on the TV, but I don't know if it is the best for me.
I'm hoping that someone out there has VoIP service, so they can help me. I just have a couple
questions that their websites do not answer. 1. If I'm playing a multiplayer game over the
internet, and my phone rings, or someone makes a call, will I notice a large drop in connection
speed? 2. Would it be possible to use a fax machine over the connection? Thanks!...
