Good SATA Hard Drives

I'm planning on investing some cash into getting a couple of extremely large hard drives (300gb and up), and I was wondering what companies have good hard drives. I need them to be extremely fast, because they are going to be dedicated to mostly video editing and compiling. They also need not to be really expensive. CAn anyone give me some ideas?

Maxtor, Seagate, and Western Digital all make good hard drives. They're mostly the same, so there's no reason to prefer one brand over the other, besides personal preference. If you want speed, I suggest getting a drive with a 16 MB cache. Maxtor makes a few of these. Apparently they're almost as fast as the 10,000 RPM Raptor drives.

Hitachi Sets SATA Drives To Only 1.5gb/s

If you have a Hitachi hard drive, listen up. Apparently the manufacturer sets their hard drives to
run at 1.5Gb/s by default and you must download and run the Hitachi HD Tool in order to bump that up
to 3Gb/s which is its highest speed setting. This explains why my Hitachi drive is so slow at most
times. Unfortunately, for people like me, you must burn the disc image in order to run the
program since the software was written in 16-bit for DOS, which is a nuisance for people who just
wants to fix one setting. Unfortunately, the programmers at Hitachi never made a Wind....

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m and whenever I boot it up, I get the white error screen telling me I
have a locked hard-drive password. I never set up a password though, does anybody know what password
I could use to unlock the hard-drive? The error message says "hard-disk #***********-595B is

Ok I am disposing of my old Windows 98 computer and I am wiping out the hard drive for separate
disposal. I downloaded Darik's Boot and Nuke and extracted it to a floppy disk. I have
formatted my non-Windows partitions and deleted almost everything on the C: drive. I booted up from
