| | The GMail user interface has been updated to include the ability to select multiple messages and perform actions on them.
In plain-speak: you can select all messages and mark them read or apply a label of choice, all in one stroke. Hard to believe that this functionality wasn't already embedded in, isn't it?
Also included for the neat freaks amongst us - the ability to empty the Trash / Spam folders in one click. Well, it's two actually - you need to go the folder in question (Trash or Spam) and then click the DELETE ALL link. That pops up a confirmation alert box, to which you give your assent for the evil messages to be obliterated.
A short tutorial is available here |

I did a search, but couldn't find any mention of it on the forums, so I deided to post the info. Apologies, if it were posted earlier. And the rollout of the "Delete All" / "Empty Trash" links is still being carried out - not everyone has got them yet. As with all new features, GMail spreads it and staggers the deployment across all its users.

15%??? Wow.. That's a lot. My GMail space usage is 1% Anyhow, there's no need to delete spam, just leave it lying there. After 30 days, it is automatically deleted. The same goes for Deleted items - that's why I don't delete anything, who knows if I'll need it some time later.

QUOTE(pyost @ Aug 3 2006, 09:06 PM) 15%??? Wow.. That's a lot. My GMail space usage is 1% 15%.. 5% of it is server logs.. i set up my working stations to send logs at the rate of 1 per hour per cron job running.. and of course the server is sending status reports per cron job run.. when an error is encountered.. a database field will be adjusted and a cron job will adjust the reporting and runs every 5 mins.. now this will be very bulky.. 1% is my personal emails.. 7% are subscriptions and reminders.. and two ftp programs just hanging around in my inbox.. the rest are spam.. and and emails i no longer want to read.. it just sits in my trash.. my spam is being cleared every time i login.. 2% space for a 2.8gig email space amounts to thousands of spam.. nice thing is they stack up nicely in my spam folder.. and gmail only have miss 3 times in its spam filter.. hotmail and yahoo always tends to send my legit emails to spam and most of spams to my inbox..

I do delete spam...but that's just because the spam really annoys me. It feels like it's cluttering my inbox, even though it doesn't really matter since it doesn't appear in the inbox and I have all the space I need. I end up deleting a lot because I'm sort of a neat freak and don't like random (stupid) emails lying around in my inbox. If I don't like it...it goes straight to trash. Hmm...the ability to select multiple messages? I remember that being included in the interface ever since I started using. The Select: All, None, Read, Unread, Starred, etc feature was always there...And when I first started using labels, I could easily select multiple messages. I don't get how this is recent. About the delete all button in the spam and trash folders, well, I've never actually found them. (Pitiful me) I just select all and then click 'delete forever'. My inbox size is at around 2%. I direct my subscriptions emails to another inbox so that I don't actually have to look at them. All subscriptions directed at my Gmail account I have a filter that drops them in archives under the label of subscriptions in case they ever come of any use. It's like all the clutter that comes in my normal mailbox...except that in that case I can't do a thing.

sparx: No problem, and you are right not everyone gets immediately all the new features of gmail, and forgive me because the new features that you mention in your first post are correct. I confused it with the earlier features, the ones you mention are new, i just verified it. vhortex: I make a test to verify if the deleted spam goes to the trash and the result is no, it is deleted, and after 30 days the trash folder is empty. Now, one of the best things that gmail have is its spam filter, for me is the best one, hotmail and yahoo dont have its effectiveness. BTW, i still have my gmail space at 1% and as you, the first thing i do every time i login is to clear my spam folder. arbitrary: I think i'm a sort of a neat freak too, i exactly do the same thing Now, another two new features of gmail are its capacity to undo your last action and the display of web clips that appears between the page header and the mails counter. The first one is very helpful but the second its a bit disturber, but GMAIL ROCKS Best regards,

I LOVE gmail. I love all the options, space, and that it kicks yahoo, hotmail, and everyone else's bums. Gmail is sooo nifty.

Delete Button In Gmail
reduces one click (19) A new feature (and this time I've checked to make sure it's new) has been debuted on the
GMail service. A separate DELETE button has been added to the button bar resulting in the
user's saving one click while intending to delete messages / conversations. Ordinarily, the
option to delete was hidden away in the Action drop-down box resulting in an extra click.

Gmail: Revelation
concerning the policy of Gmail (22) -Problem 1: Gmail is nearly immortal Google offers more storage for your email than other Internet
service providers that we know about. The powerful searching encourages account holders to never
delete anything. It takes three clicks to put a message into the trash, and more effort to delete
this message. It's much easier to "archive" the message, or just leave it in the inbox and let
the powerful searching keep track of it. Google admits that even deleted messages will remain on
their system, and may also be accessible internally at Google, for an indefinite peri....

Google Drops Gmail Address In Uk
(8) Google will stop issuing new UK subscribers with a @gmail.com address. It is because the term Gmail
have been used by a London based firm two years ago. Google still did not introduced their free
web-mail application. Google will ssue a @googlemail.com address instead of @gmail.com. Current UK
users of Google's service will not be affected. However, it forced Google to drop their Gmail
name in Germany in May. @gmail.com is their most high-profile brands. Without this gmail address,
